When it comes to environmental consulting, we're focused on cleaning up our communities today to improve tomorrow. We're looking for an Entry-Level Environmental Engineer or Geologist in the Redding, California Jacobs office to work on site characterization and remediation projects for government and private-sector clients. You'll gain valuable field experience with environmental sampling techniques and subcontractor oversight. You'll balance your field work with some time spent in the office working on data interpretation and visualization, quantitative modeling, report writing and coordinating field work.

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering or preferred), Geology, or Environmental Science or closely related field
* 40-hr HAZWOPER certification or the ability to attain this certification
* Ability to travel for field projects up to 50-90% of the time
* Remediation experience

* Strong attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment
* Experience with Microsoft Office software

As a Geologist/Environmental Scientist for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you'll be directly involved with environmental compliance monitoring and assessment projects for solid waste facilities. Your primary responsibility will be completing field activities, including: assisting with and leading field sampling activities for groundwater, surface water, air and soil monitoring/assessment projects; monitoring soil boring and bedrock coring activities; field screening of various media for evidence of environmental impacts; documenting groundwater monitoring well and piezometer installation activities. You will also assist with reporting activities, including managing and interpreting environmental data, developing potentiometric surface maps and geologic cross sections, and report development.
+ B.S. in Geology, Environmental Science or related field (M.S. a plus);

+ 1-4 years' professional experience;

+ Ability to speak and write professionally;

+ Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to drive a pickup truck;

+ Detail oriented;

+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

+ Drilling observation and environmental media sampling experience.

Barr is seeking a geologist to join its Duluth office to undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites. Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with environmental site assessments; on-site investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor; aquifer test performance and analysis; construction observation; development of a site conceptual model; and preparation of drilling logs, geologic maps, cross-sections, and technical reports. On-site investigation tasks may include observing drilling and monitoring well installation, classifying soil and bedrock samples, and collecting samples for field screening and laboratory analysis. Fieldwork opportunities for this position will be year-round and will include some out-of-town travel.
Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering or similar degree

* Academic coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above and successful completion of a field or research course

* Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0

* Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients

* Strong technical and problem-solving skills

* Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness

* Strong computer skills including word processing and use of spreadsheets

* A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs

* Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs (up to 50% travel and 75% fieldwork expected; project needs will vary seasonally and over time)

* Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship

* Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or similar degree

* Coursework related to groundwater flow

* 1-3 years of experience related to environmental work

* 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification

* Familiarity with environmental regulations

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Duluth, Minnesota, office.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
