What we are looking for SCS Engineers is looking for a Staff Geologist to support our environmental services and solid waste projects from our Kansas office. Our typical environmental service projects include site investigation, subsurface characterization, environmental site assessments, brownfields remediation, hydrogeological investigations, groundwater/stormwater/wastewater/soil sampling, monitoring, compliance report assignments, and real estate due diligence services for commercial, municipal and industrial clients. Solid waste projects include landfill permitting, design, construction, monitoring, and closure for private and municipal clients. How you can make an impact You will assist senior project team members in meeting client goals by efficiently completing sampling, data analysis, reporting, and other project tasks as assigned. Specific duties and responsibilities include: Prepare environmental assessment/monitoring reports, including tabulated data, charts, graphs, sketches, and/or figures. Participate in sample collection activities at various environmental and solid waste sites. Coordinate sampling activities with laboratories to provide timely analysis of samples. Troubleshoot issues when necessary. Review laboratory and/or field data and prepare data summaries (tables, graphs, groundwater flow maps) as needed. Oversee drilling activities involving monitoring well installation, borehole logging, well development, and sampling. Perform and document construction quality assurance to ensure compliance with construction documents. Assist with contaminant plume modeling, hydrogeological and geotechnical studies, pollutant corrective action assessments, and regulatory permitting and compliance activities. Identify and troubleshoot potential operation and maintenance (O&M) issues with soil and groundwater remediation systems. Arrange for, coordinate and document subcontractors' efforts in periodic O&M of remediation systems. Compile or review routine and non-routine regulatory submittals or technical documents to ensure completeness and conformance to applicable regulatory and/or client requirements. Assist in the planning and execution of fieldwork; coordinate work with other staff as needed. Complete quality control reviews on all work products (reports, data, etc.) prior to submission. Qualifications Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in geology, geoscience, or environmental science required. Minimum of 1 to 2 years working at an environmental consulting firm or other relevant experience required. Experience with GIS and/or database management preferred. Experience with federal and state regulatory interpretation and compliance preferred. Completion of (or willingness to complete) a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training and annual refresher training required. Ability to perform fieldwork including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods of time required. Up to 30% of time will be spent in the field. Some travel with limited overnight stays can be expected. Some extended project fieldwork may be required. Pay Range USD $65,000.00 - USD $72,000.00 /Yr. Some of the key responsibilities may include: Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability; Performing and managing contaminated site assessments, remedy evaluation, including preparing investigation work plans, feasibility studies, removal action work plans, remedy design, and remedy implementation; Performing and managing site assessment fieldwork, pilot and bench-scale programs for soil, soil vapor, and groundwater remediation technologies; Preparing remediation action plans for soil, soil vapor, and groundwater remediation projects including drawings, engineering analyses and calculations, and technical specifications; Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, and proposals; Management and mentoring of junior staff and managing subcontractors; Business development including bringing in new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation efforts, and developing and implementing a business development plan for supporting the growth of the Overland Park office; Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties; Preparing and/or reviewing/managing written document production (including proposals, technical reports, engineering designs and specifications, and/or presentations); and At times, the job may also include fieldwork such as site visits and meetings, contractor oversight, and audits associated with site investigation and remediation activities. Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed. Education and Licensure Bachelors degree in geology, geological engineering, civil or environmental engineering with an emphasis in site investigation, remediation design, construction management or a closely related discipline. (required) Advanced degree in the same. (preferred) Current Missouri or Kansas Professional Registration (P.G.). (required) Skills, Experience and Qualifications At least 8 years (10+ preferred) of relevant prior experience, in environmental consulting; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) An outstanding track record for client management, business development, and technical leadership. (required) Current marketplace visibility and existing client relationships. (preferred) Experience with physical-chemical and biological treatment processes. (required) Project management, business development training, and leadership training. (preferred) Demonstrated working knowledge Federal and Regional State (e.g., MO, IL, KS, OK, AR, NE, IA) regulations. (preferred) Excellent leadership and detail-orientation skills. (required) Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required) Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required) Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers.
