The Central Valley Water Board has an opening for a permanent, full-time Engineering Geologist position in the Irrigated Lands Regulatory Program's Compliance and Outreach unit. The position is located at 11020 Sun Center Dr., Suite #200, Rancho Cordova, CA, 95670.
Duties: Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) of the Irrigated Lands Regulatory Program Compliance and Outreach Unit and consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State and Regional Board's Strategic Plan, the incumbent is expected to work to implement the water quality control programs of the Regional Board, to be courteous and provide timely responses to internal/external customers, to follow through on commitments, and to solicit and consider internal/external customer input when completing work assignments.
Applicants should be able to work in an office setting and have the demonstrated ability to evaluate and prepare scientific and geologic reports related to water quality, write clear and accurate technical report summaries, and understand the interaction between state and federal law/policy as related to water quality regulation. Applicants should also have the demonstrated ability to clearly communicate and present scientific, policy or technical issues, and have strong collaborative and public participation skills. Other skills include the ability to work independently and within a team setting with other disciplines, good customer service skills, and proficiency in standard computer applications. Applicants should also be able to perform field investigations including traversing uneven terrain in varied topography, ability to work in inclement weather and travel in a vehicle or other mode of transportation for up to ten hours.
Specific Duties may include:
* Conduct on-farm inspections to ensure compliance with waste discharge requirements.

The Lahontan Water Board's Department of Defense Unit has an opening for a Senior Engineering Geologist. The position is located at 15095 Amargosa Rd, Building 2, Suite 210, Victorville, CA 92394, close to Interstate 15 exits.
Under the general direction of a Supervising Engineering Geologist, consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State and Regional Board's Strategic Plan, the incumbent is expected to be courteous and to provide timely responses to internal and external customers, to follow through on commitments, and to solicit and consider internal and external customer input when completing work assignments. Duties include supervision of up to 6 technical staff and one Scientific Aid. The Senior Engineering Geologist assigns and directs the work of the unit; provides daily supervision of the unit team, and reviews work products including correspondence to dischargers, agencies, and the public; reports to management and the Regional Board; and data entry into electronic data file systems. The Senior Engineering Geologist prepares an annual work plan for the unit team; tracks budget expenditures and progress in meeting work plan commitments; represents the Board in controversial and sensitive issue resolution matters; oversees preparation of reports on unit team program needs and accomplishments; and makes recommendations to management. Must be a registered Professional Geologist in the state of California.

The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is looking for an Engineering Geologist to join the Contra Costa and Solano County Cleanup Unit of the Northern California and San Gabriel Branch of the Site Mitigation and Restoration Program. This new unit was created to improve the management of cleanup work overseen by DTSC, to better achieve stakeholder goals, improve relationships with the regulated community, and develop lasting relationships with communities in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California. As an Engineering Geologist you will have the opportunity to:
* Evaluate complex geology, hydrogeology, vapor intrusion, and contaminant fate and transport data to support remedial investigation or action
* Oversee investigation and remediation implementation field activities; perform site inspections, reports, and follow up on progress of remedial action implementation
* Work with staff within DTSC, other regulatory agencies, responsible parties, project proponents, local agencies, developers, landowners, contractors, and attorneys to ensure expeditious site cleanups that are protective of human health and the environment
* Maintain ongoing communication with responsible parties, project proponents, and consultants regarding project schedules and issues that may impact project schedules
Desirable Qualifications We Look For:
* Professional Geologist (PG) license or Geologist in Training (GIT) preferred
* Experience managing projects/sites under the CERCLA site investigation and cleanup process, and/or RCRA Corrective Action process
* Experience performing, managing or overseeing hydrogeologic studies and/or site investigation activities including groundwater monitoring, drilling, and well installation
* Experience with fate and transport of contaminants in soil, soil vapor, and groundwater
* Possess strong technical writing skills, proficient using Microsoft (MS) Word
* Possess strong environmental data analysis skills, proficient using MS Excel
* Experience using database software (e.g. MS Access, SQL, Rockworks) and ArcGIS
