As a Junior Geophysicist, you'll collaborate with other experienced scientists, engineers, and project managers to solve our clients' most challenging environmental & engineering issues. Working with some of the brightest minds in environmental & engineering consulting, you'll act as a technical consultant, providing near surface geophysics expertise on geotechnical and environmental site characterizations for a variety of engineering and environmental projects. Working as part of Jacobs' Environmental and Engineering Geophysics team, you'll help design, execute, and manage geophysical surveys to support projects ranging from infrastructure planning, tunneling design, dam investigations, Site Inspections to Remedial Investigations and Remedial Designs to Remedial Actions. You'll implement standard and innovative technical solutions for proposals and projects; prepare and review geophysical work products and subcontractor procurements; travel for projects to capture field data; process and interpret geophysical data; interact with client-side geophysicists and other technical resources.

Here's What You'll Need:

* Bachelor's or advanced degree in geophysics, engineering geology, applied mathematics or closely related technical field.
* Experience in collecting and processing of land-based geophysical data including seismic, EM, GPR, magnetic, gravity and resistivity for geotechnical and environmental applications.
* Experience in collecting and processing of marine geophysical data including seismic methods, side-scan sonars, single and multi-beam bathymetric sonars.
* Working knowledge applying specific data processing software
* Ability and willingness to travel (estimated up to 60%) and sometimes for extended periods of time.

Ideally, You'll Also Have:

* Experience with vehicle-towed land geophysical surveys using seismic streamers, electrical, and magnetic methods.
* Experience with airborne geophysical surveys using EM, GPR, and magnetic methods.
* Familiarity with common data processing software (or equivalent) such as ReflexW, Res2dInv, EarthImager,Hypack, Promax, Surfseis, Kingdom and Petrel.
* Coding skills with one or more programming languages/environments, such as Python, MATLAB.
* Willingness to support other Jacobs' operations that might not be related to environmental and engineering geophysics as schedule permits.

Job Role Summary

We are looking to hire a dynamic, creative, and resourceful candidate for ExxonMobil's seismic imaging research group in Spring, Texas. Candidates will work with research teams to develop new and innovative solutions to challenging imaging and inversion problems in a variety of geologic settings. Candidates will also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver these new capabilities for production application in our supercomputing environment.

Job Role Responsibilities

* Conduct research and develop solutions for challenging ray and wave-based imaging and inversion problems in a variety of geologic settings
* Bring to bear the latest geophysical and computational industry advances to imaging and inversion research and development
* Optimize and enhance existing wave-based imaging and inversion production capabilities
* Work with computational scientists and software engineers to validate and deliver new imaging and inversion capabilities for production application
* Conduct analysis and guide production teams on the optimal application of existing and new capabilities and methods Consult on vendor-based proprietary depth imaging projects, where high-end imaging and inversion technologies are being applied

Requirements

* MS or PhD in Geophysics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related technical discipline
* 5+ years' experience in wave-based seismic imaging and inversion research and development within the Oil and Gas industry
* Demonstrated record of technical problem solving and innovation in seismic imaging and inversion research
* Flexibility and initiative to quickly adapt to changing business and production application needs
* Strong programming skills in HPC environment (e.g., C, C++, Python, Fortran, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA)
* Knowledge of seismic acquisition techniques, seismic data processing, seismic wave propagation, digital signal processing, numerical modeling and inversion, and optimization
* Proficiency in English
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams

Preferred

* Extensive experience in FWI research, development, and application in HPC environment
* Hands-on software development experience in wavefield simulation, analysis, and inversion
* Production scale seismic data processing, depth imaging and velocity model building experience
* Research and development experience in a source controlled environment (Git, TFS)

Responsibilities/Duties

Will provide direct support to military munitions project sites in the collection, processing, and analysis of digital geophysical mapping (DGM) and advanced geophysical classification (AGC) data, report writing, and project planning.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

+ Oversight of geophysical fieldwork on munitions sites

+ Collection of DGM and AGC data

+ Processing of DGM data (field and office) and development of anomaly investigation packages

+ Processing of AGC data (field and office) and development of prioritized target lists

+ Writing memorandums, reports, and DUAs

+ Interfacing with project geophysicists, Senior UXO Supervisors, and project managers on staffing and resource needs for geophysical surveys

+ Reviewing and developing the geophysical survey portions of work plans/QAPP

+ Incorporating safety and quality standards during the collection of geophysical survey data

Responsible for assigned tasks in conformance with directives set forth by HGL Policy, Director of Operations, and approved safety and health plans, munitions response Data Item Descriptions, and applicable client safety requirements (e.g. EM 385-1-1). Travel is required.

Required Skills

Must have excellent organizational and communication skills along with established expertise in the application of geophysics and related computer software for munitions response and environmental programs. Demonstrated knowledge/experience with AGC sensors (e.g., Metal Mapper family, MPV, UltraTEM, etc.). Experience with positioning systems (e.g., GPS, RTS, SLAM, etc.). Proven experience leading and training multiple data acquisition teams in the field for large-scale projects.

Preferred Skills

Python and SQL skills a plus.

3+ years of directly related experience in utilizing geophysical techniques in support of munitions (UXO) projects to include RI/FS and removal actions.
