George's Company History Timeline

1901
While the city of Buffalo, New York was celebrating the Pan American Exposition of 1901, our company, originally Buffalo Novelty Bazaar was formed.
1930
The original building, consisting of the bar area with a small kitchen in back, began in 1930 as Harry B s, named after owner Harry Urmeister.
He and his family, with the help of the George s staff, have taken that little bar that started out in 1930 and expanded its history and notoriety.
1966
George Betros bought Harry B s in 1966 and changed the name to George s.
1969
Back in 1969, a study published in Scientific American suggested he had porphyria, an inherited blood disorder that can cause anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, confusion, paranoia and hallucinations.
1985
In 1985, sons George III, and Peter after years of working part-time after school and weekends would become partners with their dad in the business.
1993
Betros sold George s Bar to local restaurateurs Sammy Citrano, David Tinsley, and Glen Screws in 1993.
1995
At that time, Citrano and Tinsley owned and operated another local favorite restaurant, the Elite Caf . However, Citrano desired to run his own business, and in 1995 sold his rights to the Elite to Tinsley and paid nearly 700,000 to buy out Tinsley and Screws.
2000
In 2000, Citrano developed the building across the street from the restaurant into a banquet hall originally known as George s Too.
2002
The manufacturing business, now George Company LLC, moved to Florida in 2002 and operates different websites, selling games and game supplies.
2005
His illnesses may have been caused by porphyria, an inherited metabolic disorder, though a 2005 analysis of hair samples suggested arsenic poisoning from medicines and cosmetics as a possible cause.
2010
But a more recent study, published in the journal History of Psychiatry in 2010, argued against porphyria as the cause of King George s symptoms.
