Georgia Gwinnett College company history timeline

2006

Perdue deferred a $5 million appropriation in the 2006 state budget for a 29,000 square-foot classroom building.

In 2006, Georgia Gwinnett College accepted 118 juniors as its first students.

2007

In August of 2007, the College enrolled its first freshman class.

2008

In June of 2008, GGC awarded its first degrees at its inaugural commencement ceremony.

2009

Georgia Gwinnett received accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in June 2009.

When the doors opened for fall semester 2009, more than 3,000 students were on campus.

2010

GGC opened a new Library and Learning Center as well as its first residence halls in 2010.

2011

The new Student Center opened in January 2011.

2013

On March 22, 2013, GGC President Daniel J. Kaufman was named as the new president of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce.

In early 2013, the college broke ground on its long-awaited Allied Health and Sciences building, future home of the School of Science and Technology as well as the newly formed School of Health Sciences and its nursing program.

2014

In May 2014, Chancellor Hank Huckaby announced that the Board of Regents approved his recommendation to name Doctor Preczewski, president of Georgia Gwinnett College.

In 2014, GGC was ranked the #5 top Southern regional public college by United States News & World Report magazine.

2015

The magazine ranked GGC the most ethnically diverse Southern regional college, both public and private, for 2015, emphasizing the college’s reflection of Gwinnett’s diverse community.

2019

Preczewski announced his retirement on January 10, 2019, effective the following day.
