Express and purify proteins for structural, biophysical, and enzymatic studies 2. Perform enzymatic assays 3. Order and inventory of cell stocks, chemicals, and supplies 4. Assists in conducting experiments, managing lab operations. This position is part of an NIH-supported program to study protein structure and biophysics of factors from pathogenic bacteria. Several proteins will be studied with NMR, crystallography, enzymology, and other methods to determine which lytic trans-glycosylases interact with which regulatory proteins and how molecular recognition is achieved in those complexes. This position is considered limited-term staff since it utilizes contingent funding which is currently only secured through June 2027. Employment thereafter will be conditional based on continued availability of funding. Responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - 1. Description The Robert Dick Laboratory is seeking an Academic Research Scientist to join our team in studying the fundamental biology and inhibitor interactions of retroviruses and other viral families from a structural perspective. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, conducting, and analyzing wet lab experiments, including biochemical assays, tissue culture work, and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) sample preparation. Location Statesboro Campus - Statesboro, GA Department Information Manufacturing Engineering Job Summary The Student Assistant will support the department of Manufacturing Engineering as a Robotics Vision Research Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Fall 2025. The Robotics Vision Research Assistant will assist faculty to integrate a robot manipulator with a zero-shot deep learning vision system for flexible and high-definition 3D reconstruction and QC. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period. Responsibilities * Integrates stereo cameras with an industrial robot and computer-hosted FoundationStereo deep learning model * Assists the faculty mentor to program the industrial robot to acquire stereo images of objects from different perspectives using OpenCV libraries * Generates 3D point clouds from each set of images using Open3D libraries * Generates multiway registration of the point clouds using Open3D libraries * Elaborates a set of metrics to assess the FoundationStereo deep learning method as a robotic metrology tool * Assesses the accuracy of the robotic metrology tool Shift Specifics * Up to 5 hours per week * Flexible with schedule of availability Required Qualifications Educational Requirements * Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education * Pursuing a degree in Manufacturing Engineering Proposed Salary $15.00 per hour This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
