Formerly a millionaire's estate, Georgian Court became an institute of
higher learning in 1908 and received full university status in 2004. It
was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985, in part because it
has one of the only real tennis courts in the world. Despite its historical campus, though, Georgian Court University's
academics are quite progressive. In addition to its 30+ concentrations,
the school has recently introduced some new and unique academic programs,
such as an master's in Homeland Security, a minor in Sustainability, and
a certificate in Holistic Health Studies. Georgian Court is divided into two schools: the University College and
the Women's College. The University College admits both men and women and
includes graduate as well as undergraduate studies. The Women's College,
on the other hand, is specifically designed for women's education, and
comprised exclusively of undergraduates. Though it isn't guaranteed, GCU attempts to provide financial aid for all
of its students. Federal and state grants are available for eligible
students, and the university funds a number of scholarships itself. For
example, the John Bishop Smith Full Tuition Scholarship is open to
Catholic students in the Trenton Diocese.Georgian Court University is a well-established organization. It was founded way back in 1908.
