Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA) is looking to expand our environmental group by adding a Senior Wetland Specialist to mentor and guide our junior staff in numerous environmental works with an emphasis on wetland delineation and permitting. GHA is an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built its reputation on civil engineering with a personal approach. The successful candidate shall have considerable knowledge of and experience performing/completing wetland delineations, natural resource management, applicable federal, state, and local wetland regulations, wetland mitigation, and naturized stormwater practices. This is a non-exempt, hourly, part-time position. The Senior Wetland Specialist will report to the division director.
How you will make an impact:
Wetland Delineation:
Conduct wetland delineations on a variety of project locations throughout Lake and Cook counties as well as surrounding counties
Collect soil samples, identify vegetation and knowledge of hydrology to determine the location and extent of wetlands
Familiarity with online resources and data and ability to utilize this information to determine potential wetland locations prior to a field visit being performed
Compile reports summarizing findings of wetland delineations including a description of the site location, exhibits, USACE data sheets and photographs
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permitting requirements through agencies such as USACE, IDNR, USFWS, LCSMC, MWRD, etc.
Knowledge of USACE NWP program and County general permits (Lake, Cook, McHenry, etc.) with experience submitting individual permits through USACE a plus
Ability to coordinate wetland mitigation via banks and/or in-lieu fees
Risk Management:
Develop and implement strategies to mitigate environmental risks and minimize project impacts on the environment
Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage with stakeholders, including clients, regulatory agencies, and community groups, to address environmental concerns and facilitate project approvals
Maintaining and building client relations
Environmental Planning:
Develop environmental management plans and mitigation measures to protect sensitive habitats and promote environmental sustainability
Experience developing permittee-responsible mitigation plans is a plus
Project Management:
Manage environmental aspects of multi-disciplinary projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation
Team Leadership:
Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff members, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment
Support junior staff in developing internal templates and documentation for permit submittals, reports, etc.
Continuing Education:
Stay abreast of emerging environmental trends, technologies, and regulations to ensure best practices and compliance with industry standards

The Water Resources Director will report to the President/COO.
This position requires independent work skills in the day-to-day operations and the ability to communicate and collaborate with GHA staff, clients, and outside agencies to implement corporate and division objectives, goals, and strategic initiatives. This position requires field and office work.
As Water Resources Division Director, you will utilize the company values in all phases of your work. The Assistant Village Engineer will be responsible for assisting our Village Engineers in the management responsibility of our Municipal Engineering Clients.
