Job Description
Girl Scouts San Diego is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and passionate Outdoor Program Manager to lead and direct the design, development and execution of a robust year-round portfolio of relevant and engaging outdoor programming, events, summer camps, and high adventure experiences for girls in San Diego and Imperial counties.
In this Role, You'll:
Design, implement and manage a portfolio of high-quality, innovative, safe and engaging age- appropriate year-round outdoor programs, including summer camps and high adventure activities that align with council and GSUSA curriculum standards and progressions, and participant interests.
Hire, train, and provide direction and leadership to outdoor program staff, seasonal employees, volunteers and community partners to ensure consistent, high quality program delivery and experiences.
Foster a positive, collaborative work environment and continuously adapt strategies and techniques to meet the changing staff, volunteer and program needs.
Develop and manage program budgets and monitor expenditures for cost effectiveness and alignment with program goals and objectives.
Collaborate with staff, volunteers and community partners to expand engagement and highlight the importance and relevancy of outdoor experiences for girls and families year-round.
Ensure all programs meet GSUSA, council and ACA standards, safety activity checkpoints and local, state and federal regulations. Oversee camp accreditation, safety inspections, and risk mitigation practices.
Negotiate and manage cost-effective vendor contracts to support seasonal and year-round programs and camp operations (i.e. food service, equine services, certifications).
Partner with property and other teams to ensure facilities meet or exceed safety, accessibility and regulatory standards.
Develop, implement and maintain standard operating procedures for all outdoor and related programs and processes.
Collaborate with the marketing department to plan and execute a year-round marketing strategy and collateral for outdoor programs and events.
Keep current on trends in outdoor and experiential/adventure education and integrate best practices into program development.
Provide active onsite leadership and presence at overnight summer camps (June-August) to support effective camp operations, staff and camper experience.
Model high levels of motivation, performance, and commitment. Create, implement, and support organization initiatives and policies.
Provide responsive and timely support to staff, parents/caregivers, volunteers and community partners.
Regularly evaluate program quality and relevance to ensure alignment with organizational goals, interest of girls ages 5-17, and program participants.
Identify and develop new and innovative ways to enhance and deliver the outdoor program experience.
Collect and analyze participation, staffing and budget data to inform planning and decision-making.
Respond to and manage crises, emergencies, behavioral issues and medical situations.
Promote and model inclusivity and cultural awareness across all outdoor programs.
Perform other duties as needed to support team and organizational objectives.
Minimum 3 years of progressive experience developing and managing outdoor youth programs, including day and overnight camps serving diverse populations.
Minimum 3 years' leadership experience managing and supervising diverse teams.
Demonstrated success designing and implementing programming and events for both youth and adults.
Knowledge and experience with ACA accreditation processes and guidelines, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations. Knowledge of Girl Scout programming preferred.
Strong problem-solving skills: ability to manage competing expectations and creatively and effectively use resources.
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
Ability to build strong working relationships with staff, volunteers, parents/caregivers, community partners and vendors from diverse backgrounds.
Adept at working with tight deadlines with an ability to shift priorities as needed.
Skill and ability to problem-solve and effectively lead others through problem resolution.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions and environments.
Willingness and ability to reside onsite at overnight camps during the camp season (June - August).
Commitment to diversity, inclusion and cultural awareness of the various communities in San Diego and Imperial counties.
Current lifeguard, challenge course, archery or related certifications are highly desired.
Current CPR certification.
Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and access to reliable transportation; ability to travel to camp and program locations.

This position is hybrid.
(PART-TIME) The schedule is up to 20 hours/week; usually 1:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday and occasional Fridays and Saturdays. There is some flexibility in the schedule.
Program delivery sites are located throughout Orange County at afterschool programs, community centers, housing centers and more.

Deliver quality Girl Scout program to multi-level troops.
Serve as a liaison with site partners, parents, and educators to increase Girl Scout awareness.
Prepare program materials and supplies to ensure accurate delivery and good use of resources.

Keep manager informed on program plans, accomplishments, and concerns.
Collect and process membership forms and other important documents.
Maintain accurate records of attendance and badges earned.
Recruitment of new girls, volunteers, and leaders for troops.
Host parent meetings to welcome families to Girl Scouts and identify potential leaders and volunteers.
Attend community events to recruit and increase brand awareness.
Distribute marketing materials in schools.
Engages in the Latinx community and community partners, which includes school and other youth serving organizations.

The Youth Education Events & Programs Intern will gain valuable career experience in educational STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program and event development under the mentorship of GSOC Girl Experience & Program staff. Intern Duties consist of program curriculum review & development, event support, facilitation with girls K-12, working within an approved STEM budget, and additional administrative tasks to gain a better understanding of programming, events, and the non-profit field.
This position will also include administrative tasks and other projects that support academic learning and GSOC objectives.
Essential Responsibilities/Activities:
Support Makerspace including event support and programming. This includes educational program development for new tools and activities, "Maker Nights" event support and direct program facilitation, and other Makerspace administrative needs. (20%)
Communicates with Program Providers and volunteers to deliver STEM programs. Supports STEM Events through administrative tasks and day-of execution of events. Supports ongoing promotion, delivery, and evaluation of STEM programs. (30%)
Support a team of volunteers dedicated to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) advancements for Girl Scouts by attending their meetings, providing event support, and day-of event management. (25%)
Supports all Girl Experience, Membership Experience, Volunteer Experience, Community Programs, Marcom, Fund Development, etc. departments' processes, projects, grants, and events through collaboration with GSOC Team members. (10%)

Girl Scouts San Diego is seeking PT Kitchen Assistants to support the weekend food service operations for our camps located in the beautiful mountain town of Julian, CA.
Kitchen Assistants will assist with preparing and serving meals for up to 150 youth, adult volunteers, and camp staff on occasional weekends, including Friday evenings through Sunday mornings. Kitchen Assistants' key responsibilities will include food preparation (slicing and chopping ingredients), setup and breakdown of dining areas, cleaning and sanitizing dishes, kitchen supplies and equipment, stocking/restocking kitchen and food supplies, adhering to proper food handling and safety guidelines, and other duties to ensure a positive dining experience.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
At least 18 years of age
Experience working in a commercial kitchen or food service environment is a plus.
Current Food Handlers Card and CPR/First Aid Certification required
Ability to work on a team in a fast-paced environment and follow and take direction.
Must be able and willing to work in an overnight camp environment in Julian with varying weather conditions and temperatures.
Must be able to walk on uneven terrain, stand for long periods of time, able to lift and/or push up to 25lbs.
Reliable transportation; ability to arrive on time for assigned work shift(s).
