The GIS Intern under general supervision will assist the GIS team with collecting, data integration, quality control and project updates to ensure data meets client satisfaction. This intern will utilize ArcGIS tools to update maps, maintain GIS data for power and telecommunication infrastructure.This role demands attention to detail, strong time management, and effective communication skills. This is an GIS Intern summer position and individuals are expected to learn and apply technical information and skills under general supervision.
Job Duties
Utilize ESR tools such as ArcGIS Desktop and ArcPro to complete mapping updates, and maintain Geographic Information System (GIS) data for power distribution and telecommunication infrastructure.
Import and integrate GIS data from various sources to enhance project datasets.
Review completed tasks to confirm results meet project-specific standards and company guidelines.
Maintain the accuracy and integrity of GIS data by performing corrections, conversions, and updates.
Review and refine outputs to meet project-specific and organizational standards.
Provide regular updates and critical project information to the GIS team and supervisor as needed.
Collaborate with the team to resolve project issues and troubleshoot GIS-related challenges.
Present technical data and maps to non-technical audiences.
Work 40 hours per week as needed to accommodate fluctuating project demands.
React safely and appropriately in emergency situations.
Report and respond timely and accurately to the supervisor.
Participate in employee and professional training events as assigned.
Ensure the proper care and maintenance of any equipment and prompt reporting of any issues to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance personnel.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a GIS, Geography Bachelor's degree program or related field from an accredited college or university. A full time four-year college student, a graduate student, or within one year of graduation date majoring in GIS, Geography or related field.
Must have knowledge of computer software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and AutoCAD
A high-school diploma or equivalent required.
Perform basic arithmetic computations.
Apply understanding to carry out detailed instructions. Identify, address, and resolve problems involving multiple variables and varied situations.
Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in both Microsoft and Google Suite applications.
Understanding of geospatial concepts, cartography, and spatial data management.
Skilled in data editing, conversion, and integration from multiple sources.
Basic knowledge of GIS database structures, including geodatabases and attribute table management.
Troubleshooting skills to address technical issues and project challenges.
High attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of maps, data, and project deliverables.
Understanding of data privacy and security protocols relevant to GIS operations.
Proficiency in prioritizing tasks to efficiently complete deliverables.

As a GIS Specialist, you will support environmental planning and permitting projects with a focus on siting and routing. Role description:
As a GIS Specialist, you will support environmental planning and permitting projects with a focus on siting and routing. This will include creating and maintaining constraints databases, providing analysis and GIS support for routing and siting studies, preparing maps and graphics, assisting with state Public Utilities Commission (PUC) siting applications and supporting public outreach efforts. You will assist our GIS team in driving efficiency by improving workflows through data standardization, automation, and tool creation. As such, you must have demonstrated experience with the latest versions of the ESRI product suite.
You will also assist with the growth of new and existing client relationships through delivery of quality work. You will be an important member of the Energy Transition team interacting with ecologists, cultural resource specialists, planners, engineers, senior technical experts, and project/program managers as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required qualifications for the role include:
* Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), engineering, biology, ecology, or similar discipline
* 2+ years of experience as a GIS Specialist in environmental consulting. Associated experience with environmental agencies and departmental roles with commercial entities may be considered equivalent
* Demonstrated experience in ESRI products including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
* Strong data management skills including creating, editing, converting GIS data following prescribed data management protocol
* Experience visualizing geographic data for both print and web products
* Experience task managing and assistant project managing multiple projects at once and working in collaboration with scientists, engineers, archaeologists, and other specialists in developing environmental documents for environmental projects
Preferred qualifications:
* Experience supporting applications for state PUC filings in the Midwestern and Eastern US
* Experience developing, managing and maintaining web map services and applications (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Field Maps)
* Familiarity with workflow automation using Model Builder or Python
