Who you are Do you love to see the impact that high quality geographic and demographic materials can make for marketing and analyzing purposes in business pursuits? Are you passionate about discussing technical and general aspects of maps, data and analysis? We are looking for a seasoned GIS Specialist to be responsible for identifying, cataloging and maintaining useful data sets, creating data visualization materials, performing geospatial analyses, and supporting brokers and clients with various Commercial Real Estate needs.
What you bring• 1+ years experience working with GIS mapping or similar• Bachelor's degree preferably in Geography, Geographic Information Systems or related degree /certification • Advanced proficiency in the ESRI suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, Online)• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite• Exceptional customer service, organizational and prioritization skills.

What success looks like• You bring the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional and technical documents, manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, professional journals, and government regulations. • You will consult with internal and external clients to define project requirements, investigating various approaches to deliver high quality information to stakeholders.• You will extract demographic and other information from various data sources, and accurately represent it in maps and reports.• You will assist with analysis, research, design, testing, and implementation of all mapping tools, templates, standards, and software. Assist with maintaining a knowledge base of standards and templates.• You will develop advanced, specialized maps utilizing geographic information and best practices.• You are an excellent communicator who can effectively present information and respond to queries for information in both written and oral format.• You can work with mathematical and statistical concepts and apply operations such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.• You are a self-starter who can take the lead on complex projects, work under pressure, deal with multiple deadlines, handle stressful situations and work with minimal supervision.

Under general supervision, performs basic to moderate GIS data development activities that involve municipal, utility, and environmental data layers. Supports the development of basic processes and methods for data development. Supports the development of map layouts, atlas maps, and web maps. May collect field data using laptops or tablets and/or GPS. Supports and executes quality control programs. Participates in client needs assessments and other GIS consulting activities. Conducts one-on-one meetings with clients to gather data. Installs basic GIS data and applications. Conducts basic GIS analysis to support clients and projects. This may include the generation of geospatial statistics, 3D and spatial analysis, and temporal analysis within a standard GIS software environment. Develops basic to moderate complexity database designs, including geodatabases, with review by others. This includes the configuration of geodatabase domains and geometric networks. Under general supervision, assists with hardware/software recommendations and specifications, and develops pricing for and/or orders hardware and software of basic to moderate complexity. May assist with development of hardware and/or software testing algorithms, and perform testing. May develop basic/configure basic GIS applications (web and mobile) using standard GIS tools. May duplicate and modify existing applications for new clients, particularly browser-based and mobile applications. May develop application testing plans and test applications. Supports end users for specific applications. Provides technical guidance and training to more junior staff. Reviews the work of more junior staff. May attend conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff. Performs other duties as required. Contributes to firm's TKM by assisting in the development of white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc. Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals with approval and review.
Minimum Qualifications


- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geography, Science, Engineering, Planning, Mathematics or Government or related discipline.
- 3 years of progressively responsible experience applying GIS technology.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
- The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Skills and Abilities


Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Basic knowledge of SQL Server (preferred). Moderate to advanced knowledge of Esri ArcGIS 10.x and extensions, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, GPS technology, UML Tools, model builder, Python for ArcGIS, and related geospatial software tools. Technical responsibilities include:

+ Assisting engineers in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, modeling, and floodplain mapping;

+ Production of FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMS) and updating related geospatial databases;

+ Developing flood risk products and performing flood risk assessments;

+ Perform analysis on GIS datasets for flood hazard mapping and risk projects;

+ Checking for graphical and technical accuracy of FIRM deliverables and associated reports;

+ Creation of non-standard maps, graphics, exhibits, and other visualizations from project outputs, to assist with project outreach and communication activities

+ Prepare and maintain internal and external project documentation and reports

+ Coordinating with the project team, project managers, clients, local communities, and other contractors to compile all data necessary to produce the most up-to-date product

Required Skills:

+ Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree a plus), geography or GIS degrees preferred

+ 0 - 3 years of professional work experience in geography (preferably in FIRM production)

+ Knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), FEMA Flood Insurance Studies, MT-2, and/or other flood study related programs and processes

+ Knowledge, interest, and project experience in GIS applications, including ArcGIS Desktop 10.x, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online

+ Strong oral, people, and written communication skills

Desired Skills:

+ Strong MS Excel and MS Access skills to leverage various data sources for use in GIS projects

+ Intermediate proficiency in python modeling/scripting and model builder for ArcGIS

+ CFM (Certified Floodplain Manager) is a strong plus

+ Knowledge of FEMA Guidelines and Standards for Flood Risk Analysis and Mapping

+ Intermediate experience with FEMA's HAZUS application for multi-hazard risk analysis

+ Knowledge of FEMA's MIP tracking and reporting system a plus

+ Knowledge of Flood Mitigation and other Grant Programs a plus

+ Knowledge of Environmental Regulations a plus
