Givens Estates company history timeline
In August 1975, Givens Estates became a United Methodist, non-profit retirement community.
Our first residents arrived in 1979 thanks to the generosity of Marion Givens and her husband, Doctor Maurice Givens.
The first residents moved in 1979.
Originally a for-profit community, Highland Farms grew in its first decade and then grew further in the 1990's with the addition of a licensed Home Care program, an aggressive renovation program, and the addition of four freestanding homes.
In 2004, Highland Farms became fully licensed by the state of North Carolina as a CCRC, which thrived and expanded with the times.
Cowan has been Executive Director since October 2014.
Moore served for 5 years as minister of music in his local church until 2020, and has used his passion for music frequently at Givens Estates from formal concerts to a monthly ukulele sing-a-long activity.
Moore became Health Services Director in 2021.
