Definition The City of Columbus, Columbus Water & Power, is seeking qualified applicants for a Laborer vacancy within the Dublin Road Water Plant. This part-time position will be responsible for facility grounds keeping, cleaning, and general maintenance. It will clean floors, buildings, grounds, equipment, piping, and vehicles; maintain tools and clean shop areas; be responsible for landscaping projects and snow removal; and repair and replace existing parts and/or structures around the inside and outside of the water plant.
This position will work in hot and cold weather conditions. Laborers are also responsible for performing inspections, repairing, and clearing debris. This includes working on and around water. Laborers drive vehicles, complete simple reports as required by their supervisor, may operate hand tools such as drills and saws, assist maintenance crews in performing daily tasks as assigned, i.e., gather tools, equipment, and clean up after the job is completed. They also assist in the yearly washout of floc and basins using high-pressure hoses.Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing routine manual labor; performs related duties as required.
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a valid driver's license. Pre-employment drug screening and BCI& I background check are required if selected.
This is a first shift position with the office hours of Monday-Thursday, 6:55 am-3:25 pm.
Salary is $21.33 - 30.73 per hour.

The laborer serves in the unclassified service and is to perform unskilled and semi-skilled manual work associated with construction, maintenance and upkeep of City of Youngstown streets, and roads, parks, rights -of -way, stormwater and drainage/water systems and other infrastructure as part of public works.
* Performs manual labor in support of construction, maintenance of City of Youngstown infrastructure projects: lifts, moves, loads, and unloads materials, equipment, tools and supplies; digs ditches, trenches and holes manually or utilizing power equipment; shovels, rakes, spreads, compacts, and levels dirt, rock, asphalt, cement, and other materials; retrieves supplies, materials, tools, and equipment; collects and transports materials, supplies, tools and equipment to and from worksite and removes litter and debris from roadways and other City property.
* Performs various manual tasks in support of street, roadway, water and drainage projects: installs and removes sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and culverts; clears and repairs ditches; clears drainage obstructions from culverts; lays and smooths asphalts; repairs asphalt and concreate; patches and repairs potholes in road surfaces; compacts road surfaces and packs ground materials.
* Performs maintenance projects such as : mowing grass; edges roadways, landscape areas, spreads sand, gravel, or other ground materials; lays sod or spreads seed grass seed; applies salt during icy weather, installs guardrails, seals cracks in roadways and cuts debris from roads and right -of-way.
* Operates light and medium level motorized equipment in order to assist with the maintenance of streets, sewers and other city facilities or property (crew trucks, backup trucks, tractor mowers, fork-lift, saws, weed trimmers and other related hand and power tools).
* Performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking and replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, performing minor equipment repairs, greasing equipment, sharpening blades, replacing parts, washing and cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop or work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and adhere to all safety standards.
* Communicate with City Department Heads, supervisors and staff as needed to coordinate work activities. Work can be characterized by assignment to rotating shifts under the direction of the supervisor
* Performs other related duties as required
High school diploma or GED preferred; previous work experience involving equipment operation or construction and maintenance work preferred; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must posses and maintain a valid Ohio driver's license. Must have the ability to follow oral and written communications.

Minimum Qualifications:
