The Police Trainee is a non-sworn, probationary position. The incumbent will remain a Police Trainee for the duration of training at a police academy. At the approval of the Chief of Police, the Police Trainee will be appointed into the classification of Police Office upon graduation from the training academy and completion of the probationary period.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
A Police Trainee receives training in law enforcement and police methodology through a POST certified police academy to prepare for promotion to the classification of Police Officer. A Police Trainee is placed on a probationary period of no longer than six months during which the incumbent will attend a POST-certified intensive Regular Basic Course (training academy) that has been approved by the department.
A Police Officer must have successfully completed the Regular Basic Course at a POST-certified police academy; carries a firearm; patrols the college campus; apprehends and arrests suspects; investigates unsafe and hazardous conditions; provides first aid; responds to requests for assistance and reports of crime; investigates incidents and prepares appropriate reports. A Police Officer is placed on a twelve-month probationary period during which he/she must complete the POST-Approved Field Training Program.
Upon successful completion of a POST certified Regular Basic Course and the probationary period, the Police Trainee will be appointed to the class of Police Officer.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives immediate supervision from POST certified academy training staff while attending the police academy. The Police Trainee is also under the supervision of the Chief of Police.
No supervision is exercised over other positions.
WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours/week, 12 months/year

Have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.
Additional Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must possess a valid California driver's license by date of hire and have a safe driving record.

Must pass a thorough pre-placement background investigation indicating good moral character.
Must pass pre-placement medical and psychological evaluations ensuring freedom from any physical, emotional, or mental condition that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.
May be required to pass a physical agility test for entrance into the selected police academy.
Salary
Starting salary is from $4,652.31 to $5,129.15 per month depending upon education and experience. Internal applicants may be initially placed at a higher starting salary as outlined in the CSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Fringe benefits, which are subject to change pursuant to negotiations under Section 3500 of the California Government Code, are presently provided and include family and domestic partner medical and dental, two-party vision plan, and employee life insurance.

Chaffey College celebrates the diverse communities we serve. As a federally recognized Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Chaffey's student population includes over 64% identifying as Latinx, 13% White, 7% African-American/Black, 6%Asian, multi-racial/other (5%) and smaller percentages of Filipino and Pacific Islanders (2%), Native American (0.40%), or decline to state (2.6%). Furthermore, 40% of our students are first-generation college students, and approximately 62% of students are eligible for some form of financial aid. This is a full-time, tenure track Academic and Career Counseling position supporting all six Academic and Career Communities. Under the direction of the Dean, the assignment will provide a full professional service week throughout the academic calendar (196 service days required). This assignment is for the Rancho Cucamonga campus. It is possible that the person in this position will also be responsible for teaching classes at the Fontana and Chino campuses.

Responsibilities
In addition to the professional responsibilities identified under 18.2.3 of the faculty agreement, this assignment includes (but is not limited to) the following:
* Provide counseling in a manner consistent with the District's standards and in accordance with the approved course outlines of record;
* Effectively develop and maintain culturally-sensitive and equity-minded learning environments;
* Beyond the learning environment, demonstrate cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity minded practice;
* Provide a safe and positive educational environment conducive to effective learning;
* Provide instruction and student support in a variety of formats and deliveries such as online, in-person, hybrid, hyflex, fast-track, accelerated, etc;
* Maintain current knowledge in the discipline and engage in innovative methods of effective in-person and online education;
* Maintain professional and ethical standards;
* Consistently use effective educational techniques to promote learning and achievement;
* Participate in department, school and community meetings, engage in college meetings and committee work, curriculum and program design and development, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, community outreach, development of complementary instructional activities for use in the Success Centers, department website development, student advisement, program review, and other duties necessary for the benefit of the students, the college, the community, and the profession;
* Positively engage students, promote development of critical thinking skills, collaboration, and empathy;
* Participate in activities such as professional development, seminars, mentoring, club advising, committees, academic senate, as well as engagement in department, school, and academic and career communities;
* Day, evening, and/or weekend assignments at any of the College campuses may be a part of the regular contract.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling; OR
* The equivalent (equivalency questions are included in the Faculty Application for Employment). Note: A Bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline)
* Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Based upon the minimum and/or desirable qualifications stated in this position announcement, the initial salary placement range is $91,216 (minimum qualifications) to $132,571 (doctorate) (Fall 2025 salary schedule). Placement is based on the regular full-time faculty salary schedule and is dependent upon verification of relevant experience and coursework from a regional or nationally accredited institution of higher learning.

* Counseling Services Specialist - The primary objective of this position is to perform complex technical and paraprofessional tasks in providing direct assistance to students, counselors and administrators in the areas of General Counseling and Student Appointment and Reporting System (SARS) administration.

OBJECTIVE The objective of the Apprentice 10 position - Administrative Support, Office of the Superintendent/President and Governing Board is to develop paraprofessionals who, under the supervision of the superintendent/president, can provide administrative support to the office of the superintendent/president and governing board. DURATION
The apprentice may be employed for a maximum of nine (9) semesters, consecutive or cumulative, including summer sessions, and may not work more than 170 working days or more than 980 hours during an academic year.

Being able and ready to work in-person with Chaffey students, Chaffey employees, or other members of the Chaffey community/Chaffey partners/Chaffey contractors is an essential function of this job.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Pursuing or completed Associate's degree or certificate with at least 20 units in government, political science, business admin/management, business technologies, or related courses. 2 years related experience may be used in lieu of coursework.
