    Child and Family Services Haven House is excited to offer several internships to enthusiastic and empathetic individuals interested in working with people experiencing domestic violence. In a supportive and dynamic environment, you will gain valuable understanding about the impact of domestic violence and the service systems available to increase client safety. You will become familiar with a trauma informed approach to providing services, empower clients, and facilitate post traumatic growth. This internship will prepare you with real social work experience and include direct client work and allow you to shadow other positions at Haven House. The Haven House hotline is often the first point of contact for domestic violence services as we are the only 24-hour DV hotline in Erie County. We are excepting multiple students for this. We have openings for summer internships as well as openings for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Intern tasks may include: Crisis intervention, safety planning, and resource connection using brief solution-focused approaches Screening clients for Haven House services Educating clients, partners, and community members on Haven House programs and services Following up with callers to assess further needs and barriers to service Becoming a part of the Haven House team Attending supervision and Haven House team meetings Students may also have time for self-driven research projects. Other notes: Interns would be able to access the placement site through public transportation, however due to our confidential location, would not be able to take rideshares directly to the site. For the 2025-2026 academic year, there is a mandatory orientation from August 17-21 st The intern will receive group supervision in a cohort model on a weekly basis, and 1:1 supervision as needed Both day and evening shifts available Minimum Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a BSW or MSW program or related fields. Students who are able to commit to two semester preferred 10-15 hours per week minimum preferred. If less than 10 hours per week, 2 semester commitment required to obtain meaningful internship experience Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all work. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment. The hope is that we can provide services that prevent the need for ongoing traditional psychiatric support. The model offers supports to youth and families, who are dealing with emotional, social concerns and are challenged by traditional systems. Our goal is to provide psychoeducation and access to supports, and where able to integrate more clinical supports where access is limited. Clinical interns will learn to work holistically with families dealing with mental health challenges. Interns will be placed at one of our Adolescent Skills Center sites to learn unique approaches to educational and vocational supports for youth between the ages of 16-22, who are looking to get additional training and education to accomplish their own goals. Interns will rotate to our Family Youth Peer Support programs, where the focus is empowering families and caregivers of these children to better understand mental health systems and concurrent supports available. The focus of this rotation is to support families dealing with the difficulties inherent in advocating for services for their youth across a variety of clinical presentations. All interns are also eligible for optional 2-month rotations with Direct service teams, a Child and Family Treatment Support Service, and a Child and Adolescent Care Coordination Team. Maintain positive liaison relationships with other community agencies, i.e. Department of Social Services, Probation and other Addiction Services, Alcoholic Anonymous, Al-Anon, and ACOA. Assist in general daily duties as needed e.g. complete client laundry process, stock shelves, request and stock kitchen and refrigerator items, clean kitchen and dishes, supervise clients in kitchen at all times, supervise client in lounge area, supervise clients during meals, clean client areas and clean and make beds after discharge and receive and document deliveries. Strictly follow all established infection control policies. Follow established emergency procedures including fire drills, evacuation procedure and disaster plans. Help maintain safety and security by monitoring cameras, searching client belongings and monitoring client activities, performing building checks and practicing defensive driving. Update the Program Director and/or Clinical Coordinator in a timely manner about all matters, seek advice and counsel and develop a spirit of cooperation in carrying out the job responsibilities. Comply with Canon of Ethical Principles as outlined by the NY State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services and the RMU Employee Handbook. Transport clients to appointments as needed. Abide by all Mission, program and safety policies, procedures and guidelines.
