    Nature of Position: The primary purpose of your is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Director of Plant Operations, to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner. Job Accountabilities Develop and maintain effective communication & cooperation with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to ensure that all services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents. Understand and perform job functions in relationship to environmental care. Maintain a clean environment for the resident. Follow proper infection control practices in all aspects of work. Recognize safety responsibilities of employee for the resident. Report occupational hazards and/or incidents of injury to appropriate personnel, in accordance with facility policy and procedures. Recognize employee's responsibility for his / her own safety while on the job and for the safety of others. Recognize and remove environmental dangers. Complete maintenance service request slips for equipment in need of repairs. Include date, time, and signature on your request. Apply principles of good body mechanics when lifting and moving objects. Use transfer techniques consistent with proper body mechanics. Use safety devices, when appropriate, and implement their use. Develop knowledge of actions to be implemented in emergency situations. Follow established policies governing the use of labels and MSDS. Dispense chemicals as written and required. Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with our established sanitation procedures. Coordinate routine/terminal isolation procedures with nursing services. Keep supervisor informed of supply needs. Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary or directed. Ensure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of shift or when not in use. Perform day to day housekeeping functions as assigned. Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments. Clean areas using proper cleaning/disinfecting procedures. Inform residents when it is necessary to move his or her personal possessions during cleaning procedures. Practice fire safety and accident prevention procedures. Participate in disaster planning drills (fire, tornado, severe weather, etc.) when on duty. Maintain calm manner in tense situations. Maintain awareness and adhere to policy and procedures governing the operation of Glenwood Village Care Center. Attend orientation and receive instruction regarding department duties. Attend general orientation and assigned in service education programs. Understand use of department procedure manual. Must understand and adhere to Vulnerable Adult Abuse Prevention Policy. Must adhere to HIPPA privacy rules and regulations. Must uphold Residents Rights at all times. Demonstrate dependable professional work habits. The NA/R is responsible for assisting the residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's) through daily nursing care as described in each resident's plan of care. The NA/R carries out simple treatment procedures, reports to and follows the instructions of the charge nurse. The NA/R works closely with the activities department, volunteers, housekeeping, and all other ancillary departments. NA/R's frequently have contact with the resident's family members. Qualifications Position Requirements: The state of Minnesota requires all nursing assistants/registered to have completed a Minnesota approved course with completion of the final test for certification. The nursing assistant must be on the Minnesota Board of Nursing Registry upon hire or completion of class and test within 4 months of hire. The NA/R must have at least a minimum of 12 hours of in-service education as set forth by the Minnesota Board of Nursing. A minimum of 12 hours annual of education will be provided by GVCC. Must attend at least 75% of all monthly nursing assistant meetings. Ability to communicate with other staff members and department managers. Collaborate with the Director of Health Care, Clinical Managers, resident's families, and community agencies to coordinate care from admission through discharge. Develop and maintain effective communication & cooperation with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to ensure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents. Make daily rounds of your unit/shifts to ensure that nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Report problem areas to the Clinical Manager. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift. Provide other nursing leadership functions as delegated by the Director of Nursing. Assist with the evaluation of nursing personnel to assure that quality care is provided to all residents. Maintain safe methods of drug distribution to residents on nursing station where she/he is assigned. Monitor nursing care for each resident consistent with the standards of nursing service. Maintain good personal hygiene, grooming, and appropriate dress. Follow established bowel and bladder program. Monitor and promote skin care procedures. Administer treatments and special tests, as directed by medical plan. Administer medications as ordered in the medical plan. Admit, discharge, transfer of residents. Maintain accurate and complete medical records. Report all discrepancies noted concerning residents care to case manager. Develop knowledge and understanding of the philosophy of rehabilitative nursing and demonstrate and implement special techniques used in rehabilitation. Promote activity and exercise for the resident. Prevent hazards of immobility. Assist resident to meet psychological and sociological needs. Understand attitudes needed to work with the chronically ill and geriatric persons. Understand and implement Resident's Bill of Rights, ensure staff follow Bill of Rights. Understand and perform nursing functions in relationship to environmental care. Maintain a clean environment for the resident. Follow proper infection control practices in all aspects of work. Recognize safety responsibilities of employee for the resident. Report occupational hazards and/or incidents of injury, to appropriate personnel, in accordance with facility policy and procedures. Recognize employee's responsibility for his / her own safety while on the job and for the safety of others. Recognize and remove environmental dangers. Complete maintenance service request slips for equipment in need of repairs. Include date, time and signature on your request. Apply principles of good body mechanics when lifting and moving objects. Use transfer techniques consistent with proper body mechanics. Use safety devices and transfer belts, when appropriate, and implement their use. Develop knowledge of actions to be implemented in emergency situations. Practice fire safety and accident prevention procedures. Participate in disaster planning drills (fire, tornado, severe weather, etc.) when on duty. Maintain calm manner in tense situations. Maintain awareness and adhere to policy and procedures governing the operation of Glenwood Village Care Center. Attend orientation and receive instruction regarding nursing department duties. Attend general orientation and assigned in service education programs Understand use of nursing procedure manual. Demonstrate dependable professional work habits. Adhere to requirements set forth in personnel policy manual. Report absences, according to policy. Come to work on time and when scheduled.     Job Description The primary purpose of your job position is to assist in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures and practices of this facility, and the requirements of the state of Minnesota. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a Registered Nursing Assistant at this facility (NAR) Must complete and pass the Medication administration for Unlicensed Personnel course as offered at an approved training site. Must know, understand, and use Standard Precautions RESPONSIBILITIES: Receive report from the charge nurse after starting your med pass or your shift. May administer oral medications, oral supplements, nasal sprays, inhalers, & scheduled nebulizer treatments, eye drops, and ear drops, suppositories for bowel function or topical medications that are regularly scheduled. In the case of PRN medications, the TMA must check with the licensed charge nurse after administration. All PRN medications must be authorized by the licensed charge nurse prior to administration. Deliver resident care as needed. Maintain good housekeeping in the med room and cupboards & dining room. Clean med trays, counters, med boxes as needed Wipe bottles after use Watch for smeared or illegible labels and have them relabeled by pharmacist Assist in dining room at mealtime. May obtain blood glucose results using the facility glucometer. TMA may not do the following: Injections, meds via NG or G tube, vaginal/urethral routes. PRN O2 due to necessary data gathering prior to administration May not do treatments fresh surgical wounds. May not do sterile treatment or sterile procedures May not score tablets or calculate doses. May not take verbal or writer orders from the physician or transcribe orders. Neuro checks Medicare charting May not administer enemas May not access the Emergency Drug Kit May not do incident reports or bruise, skin tear, open area, wanderquard/elopement reports May not give a PRN Narcotic unless licensed nurse has assessed and gave the okay.
