1956

Mercury Air Group was founded in 1956 by three original members of the legendary AVG Flying Tigers, whose focus on teamwork continues to guide our Company's core mission of service to the aviation industry today.

1969

By 1969, Mercury Services reported an annual sales volume of just under $2 million.

1971

Decades of experience, since 1971: ATC‘s roots date back to the early seventies when ATC Air Transport Consul­tants Ltd. was estab­lished in Switzerland as a charter broker.

1972

Mercury Services was purchased in 1972 for approximately $750,000 by Seymour Kahn, the owner of an electrical manufacturing business on the West Coast.

1979

1979 – ATC estab­lishes itself as a pioneer in the field of Cargo General Sales Agency and Management Services for scheduled airlines.

1980

ITS's security operations were considerably enhanced by its 1980 acquisition of the pre-board screening operations of American Airlines.

1984

By 1984, ITS was reporting $40 million in annual revenues and had acquired Andy Frain Services, Inc., which specialized in providing ticket-takers and ushers for events at entertainment arenas.

1987

Annual revenues had suffered during this difficult period and were estimated at $25 million in 1987.

1989

With the acquisition of Maytag, and the continued expansion of its aviation services throughout the United States, Mercury Air Group reached approximately $70 million in revenue by the end of fiscal 1989.

1990

1990: Company boasts pre-departure screening services at 65 airports.

1992

In 1992 CTS introduced a new security system at Houston Intercontinental Airport, where the company was contracted to provide staffing.

1992: ITS enters business of commercial security staffing.

1994

All of this activity helped Kahn to achieve his goal of $100 million in revenues by the end of fiscal 1994.

1995

In 1995, Mercury Air Group was included in the annual ranking by Forbes as one of America's top 200 small firms.

1996

In 1996, Maytag Aircraft Corporation won a major contract with Yokota Air Base in Japan to expand its military housing maintenance.

More good publicity came when the United States Secret Service began using Crown's metal detectors and recommended them to the Democratic National Committee for use at the 1996 national convention.

In 1996, total revenues grew by over 23 percent, and projections for the financial future of the company seem just as promising.

In 1996, Mercury Air Group reported total sales of $225 million, a 23 percent increase over the previous year.

By the end of fiscal 1996, the company was providing aviation fuel services to over 100 airlines around the globe, and had become the largest independent fuel and fueling services provider at Los Angeles International Airport.

1997

In 1997, ITS management decided to take the company public, selling over 2.8 million shares (about 45 percent of its total shares) on the NASDAQ exchange at $11.25 per share.

1999

In July 1999 NASDAQ moved to halt trading of the company's shares until ITS could answer some of the Exchange's questions regarding its finances.

For 1999 the company had reported a net income of $1 million; the restated results showed a net loss of $7.3 million.

2000

After the retirement of Weitzel, Mark D. Thompson was named CEO, and in February 2000 ITS hired two new executive vice-presidents who, along with Thompson, had been instrumental in the turnaround of another company.

With the airport security market beginning to mature, and competition heating up, ITS set a goal of realizing $500 million in sales by the year 2000 through the expansion of service offerings.

2000: New management team is hired in conjunction with organizational restructuring.

2004

Paul Bailin, senior security industry analyst at market research firm Freedonia Group in Cleveland, increased his estimate 10 percent for security equipment sales worldwide by 2004 to $65 billion, from $59 billion.
