Job DescriptionThe Folder/Gluer Machine Operator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of production for our folder/gluer machine including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations to keep and improve schedule requirements.
What You Will Do:
Prepare make-ready of the feeder unit. Run the initial quantity after set up to demonstrate production capability. Operate the folder/gluer machine for various types of folding cartons and produce quality products. Read and respond to scheduling software to define machine setup. Understand and practice the correct equipment operation. Responsible for meeting monthly and quarterly efficiency goals by exceeding established production and quality standards. Perform quality checks as required and report deficiencies to the Production Manager when discovered. Maintain machine work records and update them on a timely basis. Monitor equipment status and brief Production Manager as needed.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Candidates must be available to work Monday through Thursday 10 HR shift. Some overtime may be required based on production needs.


Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED. 3 - 5 years of consistent experience working with folding equipment along with a strong mechanical background.

You will be working with a team. The ability to communicate and get along with others will make you successful in this position. You should be able to read and follow written and verbal directions. Basic computer skills are required for data collection and job reporting.

Job Summary:

The Folder-Gluer Machine Operator will be responsible for daily operations of our folder/gluer machine that creates finished packaging.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Responsible for set up, make-ready, operate, and monitor the folder/gluer equipment during the running process to meet customer specifications.
• Make Adjustments to account for different fold and glue patterns based on job specifications.
• Perform all quality checks to ensure proper gluing, folding, and minimize waste and rework.
• Perform preventative and mechanical maintenance, adjustments, repairs, and cleaning as needed.
• Observe and monitor machine operations while running to detect and identify defects to determine if adjustments are necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Experience in Bindery or printing (Bobst Series) highly desirable.
• Detail-Oriented.
• Possesses mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
• General knowledge and understanding of die cutting process and equipment.
• Math, analytical and abstract thinking.

Education and Experience:

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• Allied Training: 6-12 months

Physical Requirements: Standing-80%, Walking-20%, Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling 50lbs.

Shift Available & Schedule: 1st shift: 8:00am-4:00pm, 2nd shift: 4:00pm-12:00am, 3rd shift: 12:00am-8:00am

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

* Set up and operate machine(s) to insure that quality products are achieved at a consistent rate of speed in accordance with machine standards.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Operate machine(s) in a consistent manner as instructed, maintain standard operating procedures
* Able to make machine adjustments in order to maintain machine at safety, quality, and production standards
* Set up all gluers to precise measurements and alignments within allotted time for next production run
* At the beginning of each shift, check previous shift's report to determine status of run
* Uses computer system to log productivity and remarks on job, accurately completes production report and record production data
* May set up and use various scanners during production
* Start equipment and adjust machine as required to attain target speeds
* Be responsible for the quality of the product manufactured with regard to folding, gluing, packaging, labeling, and stacking
* Check for scrap and quality defects; continuously check for quality defects of finished product
* Observe packers to be sure that the proper count is going into the case
* Operate the machine in a safe manner and to notify supervision of any unsafe conditions that might exist
* Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and assists in repair of machine malfunctions; performs routine cleaning, and maintenance
* Maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans in accordance with our 5S system

AUTHORITY: Must have the ability to lead a crew that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and written instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Experience operating a folder/gluer, preferably in a folding carton environment. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lifts/moves 25 to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during the shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which will require both eye and ear protection. Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, the machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job.
