Gogo company history timeline

2006

In 2006, Gogo was awarded the United States Federal Communications Commission's exclusive Air-To-Ground (ATG) 3 GHz broadband frequency license.

2008

In 2008, Gogo made its debut on commercial aircraft, bringing robust Internet access to the skies and transforming the experience for air travelers.

2011

In June 2011, the company changed its name from Aircell to Gogo as part of a re-branding effort.

2012

Until 2012, all of our commercial aviation activities had been limited to the domestic market in the US and Canada.

2013

Gogo started trading June 21, 2013 on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the ticker symbol "GOGO". The price of its shares has fluctuated significantly since that time and the company has not had a profitable quarter in 2.5 years as a publicly traded stock.

On June 20, 2013 Gogo announced that it has priced its initial public offering of 11 million shares of common stock at $17 per share.

2014

Prior to the re-brand, Gogo's commercial air service was known as "Gogo Inflight Internet". In September 2014 Aircell rebranded as Gogo Business Aviation.

2015

2016

As of August 3, 2016, Gogo had partnerships with 17 major commercial airlines and is installed on nearly 2,500 commercial aircraft and over 6,800 business aircraft.

As of March 2017, 2Ku is already installed on over 130 aircraft, making it yet another technology developed at an incredible pace.

In 2017, we’ll also introduce Gogo TV – our live television service, using the capacity of 2Ku to deliver multiple live TV channels to passenger devices.

2020

In December 2020, the company announced that it had completed sale of its commercial aviation business to Intelsat and would focus exclusively on the business aviation market moving forward.
