While working for Sperry Univac in the 1960’s, R. Gene Moffitt, Founder and Chairman of Gold Cross, managed Intermountain Ambulance in Salt Lake City, Utah.
1967 – Jim Welch purchased Lindy’s Ambulance.
In 1968, Gene started Gold Cross Ambulance by responded to emergency calls from his home in a 1968 Cadillac ambulance.
1969 – Jim renamed the company Gold Cross Ambulance Service and hired full-time staff.
1972 – Local hospitals purchase radios to allow for two-way communication with Gold Cross ambulances.
1974 – Partnered with local physicians and hospitals, the Gold Cross Ambulance staff was trained to the paramedic level.
1990 – Two local hospitals, the former Appleton Medical Center (now ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton) and Theda Clark Medical Center (now ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah), partnered with Gold Cross Ambulance.
In 2016, The Utah Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services presented Gene with The Distinguished Service Award for a Lifetime of Service.
2016 – Gold Cross Ambulance Service, Inc. celebrated 25 years of local healthcare partnerships and community service.
In 2017, JEMS, the Journal of Emergency Medical Services, presented Gene with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Service in Emergency Medical Services.
