Since Arrowhead Golf Club’s historic opening in 1927, it continues to offer a superb golf experience to its guests. The course is comprised of three nine-hole courses where guests can experience the feel of a private club at one of the finest municipal courses in the state.

Arrowhead Golf Club was Audubon Certified in 2020.

The Position :

What will you do?

  • Responsible for timely chemical applications to golf course properties and fertilizer applications to tees, greens, fairways, and rough areas.
  • Supervise and participate in operation and maintenance of pumps, and in maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Understand and identify turf diseases and insect pests.
  • Supervise pesticide application and/or operate and calibrate pesticide application equipment.
  • Assist in planning and supervising maintenance of greens, tees, and fairways; schedule work, and supervise employees and the use of equipment.

The Qualifications :

  • A degree in turf management/soil science or related field preferred.

  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and able to operate a manual transmission.
  • CPR/AED certified or obtain within one (1) year of employment
  • Illinois Pesticide Applicator’s License or obtain with thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Must be able to move objects (bags/jugs of fertilizer and chemicals) up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to be continuously exposed to all weather conditions and OSHA approved pesticides and chemicals.

The superintendent is entrusted with the maintenance, operation and management of a golf course. You serve as the liaison between the company, the customer representative and the golf shop on matters concerning daily course operation. You'd be responsible for:

+ Planning, organizing, and direct maintenance of all areas within the scope and according to the technical specifications of the contract.

+ Supervising the operation, maintenance and repair of all equipment assigned to the course.

+ Preparing and operate within annual budget estimates.

**Overview**

**Essential Functions:**

+ Provides assistance to Superintendent in all facets of daily operation. Acts as Superintendent on duty in the absence of the Superintendent.

+ Assists with maintaining the appearance and safety of the course by assisting with diagnosing and reporting agronomic issues; assists with managing irrigation system adjustments and scheduling; assists with maintaining a wide variety of turf grasses in extreme climatic conditions; assists with managing course preparations for tournaments and daily play; operating various hand and power tools as needed to accomplish mowing, edging and cultivation as needed; integrating environmental programs specializing in IPM (Integrated Pest Management); assists with overseeing maintenance of golf equipment fleet; assisting in the coordination, scheduling and supervision of capital improvement projects.

+ Manage maintenance operations (employees involved in maintaining greens, fairways, tees, sand traps, bodies of water, rough, maintenance shop, golf carts and clubhouse) by providing assistance in recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, evaluating, supervising and correcting when necessary; assist the Superintendent in executing safety meetings.

+ Assists in administrative function by maintaining maintenance records and developing required maintenance reports; tracking maintenance expenses including payroll, supplies, fertilizer, chemicals, etc.; informing Superintendent of parts, supplies and equipment needed.

+ Good time management, organization and prioritization skills. Membership in the Golf Course Superintendent's Association preferred.

+ Workers' Compensation: call in accidents to WC provider; follow-up on treatment, return to work status; post-accident drug testing.

+ Requires the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; must be flexible and able to adapt to frequent changes in work priorities.

+ Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of ABM's safety policies and rules. Must be willing to report and/or act on safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.

+ Must maintain regular and acceptable at such a level as determined by ABM. Must be available and willing to work on a full-time schedule and must be available and willing to work as needed and determined by ABM as necessary to meet the business needs. This position requires working weekends & holidays, working irregular shifts (starting as early as 5:00 am), and attending evening meetings.

+ Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent.

**This position requires the following physical capabilities: standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 pounds), pushing and pulling (up to 50 pounds), bending, squatting, reaching, working in warm and cold weather, hand/eye coordination, ability to distinguish colors, vision. Must be able to safely operate equipment and use tools typically found in landscape, horticulture and golf maintenance operations.**

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
