Job Summary of a Cosmetologist: To provide Cosmetology services to Good Shepherd Nursing Home and Bremmer residents, as well as community members, abiding by laws and rules determined by the Board of Cosmetology and Minnesota Department of Health under the supervision of the Director of Nursing/Senior Housing Services Director. Essential Functions of a Cosmetologist: • With attention directed toward prevention of problems and maintenance of health and hygiene, the Cosmetologist will provide direct resident hair care services by preforming the following duties according to the individual resident care plan and each resident's basic needs: 1. Provide shampoo and/or hair sets to NH and Bremmer residents. 2. Provide haircuts, permanents, hair coloring and barber services to NH and Bremmer residents (with family request/consent), as well as community members. 3. Document all care provided and submit to business office for billing purposes on an ongoing basis. 4. Reports pertinent information regarding residents to charge nurse. 5. Report pertinent information regarding Bremmer residents to Senior Housing Director. 6. Assist Nursing Home and Bremmer residents to/from hair appointments as needed. • Manage the supplies and Hair Hut room: 1. Monitors supply inventory and orders to maintain adequate and standard quantities. 2. Stores supplies in the appropriate places as needed. 3. Informs the DON of supplies or equipment needs or improper functioning. 4. Submits record of supplies and equipment ordered for billing purposes. 5. Shops for quality product, fair prices and good customer service. Negotiates for lower prices as able. 6. Monitors room to meet infection control and safety needs. Keeps disinfecting products behind locked doors when not in use. • With attention directed toward embracing the Culture Change philosophy, make decisions and carry out duties according to the resident's preferred routines and choices. Physical Demands of a Cosmetologist: • Regularly required to stand, bend and walk. May also be required to sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and pull. • Regularly assigned to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds. • Frequently required to support up to 10-50 pounds. • Emergency situations could require carrying/supporting 25 pounds or greater. • Requires employee use hands for repetitive actions such as simple grasping, firm grasping and fine manipulating. • May be required to work in unprotected heights, being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and/or humidity, driving automotive equipment and exposure to dust, fumes or gases such as hair spray, permanent odors and hair coloring agents. Qualifications of a Cosmetologist: A. Education/Other- • Able to read, write and follow oral and written instructions and document care and services provided. • Experienced cosmetologist with an excellent work record and work qualities. • Licensed in the state of Minnesota. • Stays informed of Nursing Department changes via email and in-service education.
