In 1824, in order to apply the United States government’s Native American policies, Congress made a new agency inside the War Department called the Bureau of Indian Affairs, which worked closely with the United States Army to enforce their policies.
Around 1850 the town's name of Mansker Station was changed to Goodlettsville in honor of the well-respected Goodlett family, whose patriarch and grandsons served the community as physician, pastor, and store owner.
To calm these anxieties, in 1851 the United States government placed a conference with several local Indian tribes and established the Treaty of Fort Laramie.

1865 The End of the Civil War In 1865, barely six months after the end of the Civil War and just two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, three men — John Ogden, the Reverend Erastus Milo Cravath, and the Reverend Edward P. Smith — established the Fisk School in Nashville.
In 1871 the federal government approved a critical law proclaiming that the United States would not treat Native American tribes as autonomous entities.
In 1887, Congress passed the General Allotment Act, the most significant element of the United States government’s assimilation platform, which was developed to “civilize” American Indians by teaching them to become farmers.
Within three decades, the tribes had lost in excess of two-thirds of the region that they had controlled before the Dawes Act was enacted in 1887; the majority of the remaining land was sold to white settlers.

Many American Indian bands didn’t survive relocation, cultural destruction and military defeat; by 1890 the Native American population was reduced to under 250,000 people.

The Goodlettsville Fire Department was established as a volunteer fire department by the Goodlettsville Men's Club in 1944.
Built in the mid 1960’s, this building first housed Denton’s Furniture and Appliance Store, and adjoined the historic Main Street stores that included Dardon’s Pharmacy, Oscar Brooks Men’s Store, B.F. Myers Dry Goods and others.
The Goodlettsville Area Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1961 by a group of local merchants seeking to develop a prosperous business community three years after the City of Goodlettsville incorporated.
