Goodwill Industries of South Florida company history timeline

1959

In 1959, Goodwill opened in an old 40,000 square foot building located at 1130 N.W. 22nd Street in Miami.

1964

By 1964, Goodwill had outgrown its facility and moved to the 133,000 square foot former Miami Herald building located at 200 South Miami Avenue in Miami.

1966

Our local Goodwill Industry, Gulfstream Goodwill Industries Inc., was founded when founder and former Mayor of West Palm Beach, Ham Anthony, made the decision in 1966 to establish a Goodwill enterprise in Palm Beach County,. Mr.

Beginning with 10 employees, there was no looking back from the initial 25 board of directors in 1966.

1968

Growing from two small retail thrift stores, a couple of dated donated trucks, and the persistence to succeed, the first rehabilitation facility was opened in 1968.

In 1968, Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries in Boston began to search for an updated logo to represent the brand.

1979

In 1979, Goodwill sold the original facility and purchased the United States Biscayne Annex Postal building, a former post office located at 2121 N.W. 21st Street in Miami.

1981

The program started in 1981.

2019

2019 marks the 60th anniversary of Goodwill South Florida.
