Principal Data Scientist - Consumer Personalization & Generative AI

Gopuff's Data Science team powers the personalized search, browse and recommendation experiences that shape how customers discover daily goods. We are expanding our mission to include cutting-edge generative-AI capabilities. This role will lead the design and deployment of LLM-driven models that deeply understand customer needs and deliver personalized, timely experiences. You will partner with product managers, engineers and researchers to adapt pre-trained large language models (LLMs) to Gopuff's unique business challenges, fine-tune models using LoRA/qLoRA, build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and drive innovation from prototype through production.You Will:
Understand customer needs through AI: Build models that interpret intent and context to provide the right product, recommendation or experience at the right moment.
Fine-tune and adapt LLMs: Apply LoRA/qLoRA and RAG techniques to customize state-of-the-art LLMs for Gopuff's domain, using frameworks such as Hugging Face, LangChain and LlamaIndex.
Architect personalization systems: Design robust pipelines for search, retrieval and ranking that combine generative AI with classical ML, leveraging vector databases and prompt/context optimization.
Drive algorithmic innovation: Explore and apply new methods in deep learning, reinforcement learning, multi-task learning and embeddings to improve personalization, recommendations and discovery.
Develop conversational and Q&A experiences: Build interactive agents that can answer questions, guide product discovery and engage with customers in natural language.
Deploy at scale: Collaborate with MLOps and engineering teams to productionize models with high scalability, reliability and low-latency response times.
Evaluate and optimize: Define metrics, design A/B tests and perform offline/online evaluations to measure model performance, customer satisfaction and business impact.
Collaborate and educate: Work with product, engineering, design, analytics and leadership teams to translate business needs into AI solutions and communicate data-science concepts clearly.
Mentor and lead: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data scientists and ML engineers, fostering a culture of responsible, customer-focused AI.
Stay ahead of the curve: Continuously track emerging LLM architectures, tools and techniques, and integrate them into Gopuff's AI roadmap.
You Have:
MS/PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field with 2+ years of experience building generative-AI systems (or 8+ years of industry experience in data science).
Demonstrated experience fine-tuning LLMs using LoRA/qLoRA, adapting models through RAG pipelines, and optimizing with transformer architectures.
Proficiency in prompt engineering, RLHF and model optimization.
Hands-on expertise with Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, LlamaIndex and vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, FAISS).
Strong skills in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX); experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and MLOps tools (MLflow, Databricks, etc.).
Experience working with large datasets and SQL; ability to write scalable, production-quality code.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to partner across technical and business teams.
A passion for building AI that understands and anticipates customer needs while ensuring responsible and fair use of technology.
Compensation:
Gopuff pays employees based on market pricing and pay may vary depending on your location. The salary range below reflects what we'd reasonably expect to pay candidates. A candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for a discretionary annual cash bonus and participation in Gopuff's equity incentive plan.

Follow Waterway policies, procedures, guidance, and instructions, including and especially those related to safety.

Physical Requirements:
Environmental - will work outdoors year-round, and be exposed to wide temperature variations, sunshine, wet weather (rain, snow), humidity, wet surfaces, gasoline and exhaust fumes, machinery and moving parts, and brief exposure to car wash tunnel noise.
Physical - periods of extended standing, bending, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, drive vehicles, reach above and below shoulder level. Complete tasks at a fast pace, sustain consistent physical effort, sustain continuous and prolonged standing and movement. Work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and maintain a calm and professional disposition in all circumstances.

Job Summary:
The Men's Designer is responsible for the design, development, and execution of seasonal assortments across multiple menswear categories (excluding denim, headwear, and swim) for mid-tier and off-price sales channels. This role combines creative vision with commercial sensibility, delivering value-driven product that meets customer expectations while aligning with brand direction. The Designer manages the end-to-end process - from concept research and sketching through sample execution and sales presentation - ensuring assortments are innovative, financially viable, and on time.
Responsibilities:
Concept & Design Development
Research seasonal trends, fabrics, colors, and graphics to inform design direction across multiple menswear categories.
Create original sketches, technical flats, and presentation boards to communicate design vision.
Partner with Merchandising to align assortments with financial goals, customer needs, and margin requirements for mid-tier and off-price accounts.
Build color palettes, fabric stories, and product narratives that balance creativity with value-driven positioning.
Product Execution
Develop detailed tech packs and specifications for samples, ensuring accuracy in fit, construction, and fabric selection.
Collaborate with Development and Vendors to achieve quality standards, cost goals, and seasonal timelines.
Review and provide comments on proto samples, lab dips, trims, and strike-offs.
Maintain PLM data accuracy for all assigned styles.
Oversee the seasonal sample process for design approvals and sales presentations.
Collaboration & Calendar Management
Partner with Merchandising, Development, Production, and Sales to ensure designs align with assortment strategies and calendar deadlines.
Present designs during milestone meetings (creative kickoff, CAD reviews, line close, sales release).
Provide design input for seasonal marketing, catalog, and B2B assets.
Manage workload effectively to deliver high-quality results on time.
Market & Customer Awareness
Monitor competitive assortments and pricing within mid-tier and off-price channels; identify opportunities for differentiation.
Translate customer and consumer insights into commercially viable product solutions.
Ensure designs reflect brand identity while resonating with value-driven retail environments.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or related field.
3-5 years of experience in apparel design, ideally within mid-tier and/or off-price retail accounts.
Broad menswear design experience across multiple categories (excluding denim, headwear, and swim).
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and PLM systems; strong CAD and technical drawing skills.
Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, and fabric development.
Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to shifting priorities.

The Junior Operations Supervisor role is a core part of the Site leadership team with responsibility to ensure high operational standards at our MFCs to deliver timely and accurately for our customers.

You will be responsible for leading the team during your shift:
* Leading: showing the warehouse team how it's done, leading by example and being responsible for the management of Staff on shift. Training new team members and being confident on process and product
* Picking and packing: accurately pick and pack items on a per order basis for dispatch to customers
* Delivery Partners: Support with managing the Delivery Partners to ensure a slick delivery experience
* Issue resolution: Contacting customers for substituted or out-of-stock items
* Goods Inbound: Receive product from vendors, ensuring physical count matches purchase order/invoice, and resolving discrepancies
* Stock management: Put away products to inventory locations and conduct cycle counts to minimise out-of-stock products. Manage waste and compliance and our partnership with TooGoodToGo
* Warehouse management: keep the warehouse compliant, clean, organised and aligned with Operating Standards
* Health and Safety: Supporting Onsite Health & Safety compliance and testing
About You:
* You have experience working in a restaurant, retail or warehouse environment
* General working knowledge of basic web-based software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Workspace)
* Strong work ethic, punctual, responsible and honest
* Effective communication skills
* Organised, team-oriented, positive attitude and helpful
* Available to work night shifts
* Available for occasional travel
