JOB SUMMARY The EH&S Intern will assist the Churchill Downs Sr. Director of EH&S or designee, in the analysis, development and implementation of comprehensive health and safety programs for all CDI properties to include racing, gaming, and hotel operations. This is a chance for the right student or recent graduate to apply their knowledge and gain valuable EH&S experience for one of the most recognized brands in the world. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop written and online safety training programs for various work groups. Conduct job hazard assessments (JHAs) and facilitating recommendations on hazard mitigation. Work at Churchill Downs during Derby week in support of Health & Safety operations. Support business goals and objectives with the implementation of Safety initiatives. Conduct environmental audits/inspections alongside other EH&S team members. Complete written reports and presentations based on workplace field safety assessments. Assist with Safety Committee presentations and injury data analysis. Opportunity to gain experience about equine safety as it relates to horse racing. Special projects and additional duties as assigned including Kentucky Derby week work assignments. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Working towards or recently obtained a degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Equine Studies, or closely related discipline at an accredited university or college. Must be proficient in MS Office and the use of tablet-based applications. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills required. Must have attention to detail and ability to multi-task. Must react with a positive attitude and productively handle tasks as assigned. Must be able to work independently, exercising effective judgment and initiative.
