Alternative liberal arts academics and lively arts programs are two
things that set Goucher College apart. A small, independent college situated on beautiful wooded acreage in
Towson, Maryland, Goucher College grants bachelor's and graduate degrees
in the liberal and fine arts and sciences. Art History, Creative Writing,
Latin American Studies, Peace Studies, Philosophy and Religion, Theatre
and World Literatures in Translation are some examples of Goucher's
majors. Professional programs of study may also be found. Among them are Arts
Administration, Education, Pre-Law, Pre-Medicine and Science and
Engineering. What differentiates Goucher, however, is its approach to all of these and
other subjects. At Goucher students may carve out their own major,
combining two or more fields of study. In addition, Goucher students
enrolled in traditional majors are also required to do some amount of
independent, interdisciplinary study. All students must also undertake an internship or study abroad program. Another of Goucher's alternative options, called Goucher II, is an
accelerated program which, through evening classes, gives working adults
the chance to earn their bachelor's in a shortened amount of time. Arts-based student life activities abound at Goucher, where performing
arts productions and creative arts clubs and organizations all provide
students a chance to explore creative talents and interests. Students may
also join religious, political and cultural clubs and participate in
recreational activities. In keeping with its alternative approach to education, Goucher does not
require SAT or ACT scores for admissions. Part-time students in the Goucher II program automatically receive a
scholarship covering partial tuition. Additional financial aid sources
such as loans and grants may be applied for by all Goucher students.Goucher College is a well-established organization. It was founded way back in 1885.
