PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position will enforce all local, state and federal laws, provide and serve the citizens of the County and the State, will render aid during emergency situations or disasters, will investigate criminal offenses, make arrests and aid in successfully obtaining convictions in a Court of Law.
WORK PERFORMED/JOB FUNCTIONS: Respond to all emergency situations, both while on and off duty, such as car accidents, farm accidents, storms, explosions, etc. Render assistance and aid to the injured, protect property and the well-being of the public. Enforce all local, state and federal laws. Assists in civil, criminal and traffic investigations, which involves gathering of evidence, marking, preserving and protection the same for judicial use, interviews witnesses, suspected perpetrators and victims. Assists in the interrogations of suspects; completes investigative reports and all reports, as required. Physically arrests criminal perpetrators. A Deputy Sheriff must be able to give clear, honest testimony in Court. Serves arrest warrants. Transports mental patients, prisoners and blood to area hospitals or other security facilities, delivers death notices to family. May be required to operate motor vehicles and other equipment associated with law enforcement and may be required to repeatedly perform small mechanical motions of keys and other devices used on a continuing basis and requiring a medium ability to accomplish. May be required to arrest and/or transport persons during all hours and weather conditions. May be required to work in other divisions of the Sheriff's Office. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must have the ability to analyze various situations and react accordingly within split seconds. Tactfully, efficiently and effectively communicate with the public when obtaining sensitive information regarding investigations. It is essential to keep individuals subdued during arrest and/or transport. Must be knowledgeable in the following areas: criminal investigations, interrogation, rules of evidence, preservation of evidence, death investigation, jail security, communications practices, federal, state and local laws, procedures for settling internal grievances, promotion of high morale in the department and knowledge of Courts. Knowledge, or the ability to acquire such knowledge in a relatively short period of time, of street and highway systems, geography of the County and the location of buildings and areas requiring special law enforcement services. This position shall be filled in accordance with civil service rules and regulations.
MINIMUM TRAINING, EXPERIENCE OR CERTIFICATIONS: Minimum of an Associate of Arts (A.A.) Degree, preferably in Criminal Justice. Must be a full-time POST licensed peace officer or POST licensed eligible. Must be a United States Citizen. Must have no felony convictions. This position shall be filled in accordance with civil service rules and regulations. Must possess a valid Driver's License.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Heavy to very heavy physical activities requiring climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, near and far acuity, depth perception, accommodation, field of vision and control of others. The employee must exert in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Position Duties Include:
Be the first point of contact for employees, clients, and visitors. Answer incoming calls to the office, greet visitors, and answer general questions from clients and staff.
Coordinate and perform initial/annual training. Work with new employees and help them get onboarded to the Circle of Life team!
Input data into EMR/HRIS systems timely and accurately.
Assist with the branch's weekly payroll.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To assist the County Attorney in the preparation and presentation of cases in District Court for civil or criminal prosecution, and to act in a legal advisory capacity to various County officials as assigned.
WORK PERFORMED/JOB FUNCTIONS: Responsible for all aspects of criminal prosecution and civil litigation, including: working with victims and witnesses; appropriately reviewing matters involving crimes or civil issues and taking appropriate action, preparation of criminal complaints and eCharging cases; preparing civil pleadings; conducting legal research and preparing briefs and Memoranda; conducting Court/Jury trials and engaging in plea and/or settlement negotiations; preparing sentence and disposition recommendations; handling appearances in District Court; developing work priorities and assisting the County Attorney in developing and executing department policies; and providing advice to individual County employees and County Departments regarding the conducting of County business as directed by the County Attorney.
