Gracie Barra company history timeline
In 1986, Carlos Gracie Jr. founded the first Gracie Barra school, in the city of Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.
In 1993, that assumption faced its most challenging test when Rorion Gracie put together the first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) as a contest between athletes from different martial art styles.
Carlos died at the age of 92 in the year of 1994, he had 21 children from different mothers, 11 of which he awarded the black belt in Jiu Jitsu.
Carlos Gracie Junior will always be remembered as a true ambassador of the sport/martial art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and as a token of that status, he was awarded his Coral Belt in 2008, one of the greatest honours there is in the BJJ world.
One school in each city in the world’, said Master Carlos Gracie Jr. at the end of one of the most important Gracie Barra Instructors meetings held at our Headquarters in Irvine, CA in March, 2010.
The establishment of GB’s Franchising Program in 2010 was one of the most important accomplishments on our recent history.
Gracie Barra Northridge opened in August of 2011.
The Gracie Barra School of West County was founded in October 2011.
