SUMMARY: The Bilingual Teaching Fellow program is a Grow-Your-Own teaching pathway partnered with Western WA University. Fellows work in a K-8 setting during the day while taking courses with Western WA University in the evening. This program is two years long and prepares students to work as Dual Language teachers in grades K - 8. Preference for seats in this program are prioritized for pre-existing employees of Highline Public Schools and employees do not need to be/have been bilingual paraeducators to be eligible. Fellows start university classes in June 2025 and start working as a Bilingual Teaching Fellow in September 2025.
Under the guidance of a mentor teacher, the Fellow provides individual and group instruction to MLL students in the Dual Language school target language using standards and assessments to plan for instruction. The Fellow serves as a liaison between the school and families, provides interpretation services for non-English speaking families and school staff; and leads/develops family engagement activities for the bilingual community.
