The Crime Victim Services Intern will assist in providing victims with referrals to applicable community resources, assist with public presentations (police academy, schools, etc.), communicate and work with detectives and patrol officers, and other needed tasks. The position reports to the Department's Crime Victim Services Coordinator.
* Assist the Crime Victim Services Coordinator with victim/witness contact, referrals, and follow-up.
* Assist victims of violent crime with crime victim's compensation applications.
* Follow up with crime victim's compensation claims and status.
* Communicate and work with detectives, patrol officers, and other criminal justice authorities.
* Learn about the criminal justice system and victim services by attending trials and hearings.
* Assist Crime Victim Services Coordinator with plan and delivery of victim services presentations.
* Perform related duties as assigned.
* Must be receiving academic credit from an accredited college or university.
* High School diploma or GED equivalent.
* Valid Driver's License.
* Reliable transportation to and from the Police Department
* Intermediate level of computer knowledge and experience.
* Ability to utilize word processing and data entry programs.
* Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
* Positive and supportive attitude with people of all backgrounds and abilities.
* Motivated, self-starter who takes the initiative to seek out tasks from staff.
