When appropriate, externs are encouraged to engage in observational learning by sitting in on other clinicians' sessions - both testing and counseling. They are also welcome to observe weekly PCIT sessions conducted by certified PCIT therapists and may assist with specialized services such as PCIT-SM. Didactics: Externs participate in didactics focused on evidence-based treatments and pediatric psychology. These are delivered through a variety of formats, including review of supplemental materials, viewing recordings of previously held didactic sessions, and live meetings with didactics instructors for more hands-on learning and case consultation. Examples of topics covered in didactics include, but are not limited to: Social Skills Training DBT and Risk Assessment Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) ADHD PCIT-SM Strategies for Working with Children with Emotional and Behavioral Dysregulation Externs are also required to view a series of prerecorded departmental webinars to help prepare them for their clinical work and are encouraged to attend upcoming live webinars as their schedules allow.
