The Stowers Institute for Medical Research is seeking a Research Technician II to join the Hall Lab. Our lab is motivated by the simple premise that we shouldn't be limited to studying biology only in established “model” organisms. We are developing a suite of molecular and imaging tools to enable genetic engineering in diverse emerging model organisms, with the goal of understanding how stem cells support regeneration across the tree of life. Roles & Responsibilities The selected candidate will work closely with the PI to support the lab's research efforts by: Developing and refining techniques to maintain and expand an array of emerging model invertebrates (with a strong emphasis on flatworms). Contributing to molecular cloning that support transgenesis and gene editing strategy development. Performing experiments to characterize regeneration, life history traits, and phenotype variation across species. Maintaining thorough documentation (protocols, experimental records, colony/line tracking) and contributing to lab organization and best practices. What You'll Be Doing Animal husbandry to maintain several species of emerging model flatworms and related invertebrates. MD or PhD scientists studying the molecular mechanisms of neonatal diseases such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia, necrotizing enterocolitis, genome-microbiome interactions, and the developing gut-brain axis are encouraged to apply. The Division of Neonatology, the Neonatal Diseases Research Program, the Department of Pediatrics, and the CMRI are in an exciting period of growth and expansion. The Neonatal Diseases Research Program (NDRP) is located in the seventh floor of Children's Mercy Research Institute research tower attached to Children's Mercy Kansas City. This is a a new state-of-the-art, nine floor, research building with greater than 375,000 total sq. feet of wet lab space. The new CMRI building houses the majority of CM investigators pursuing translational research, and is equipped several research cores including genomics, flow cytometry, imaging, GMP biologics, and a rodent vivarium. The NDRP has >1000 sq.feet of assigned extensive wet lab space on the 7 th floor for current personnel and to facilitate future expansion. The NDRP, which focuses broadly on the molecular mechanisms regulating endothelial and epithelial injury in the context of the developing lung and intestine, is funded by the NHLBI, NICHD, NIDDK, the March of Dimes, and local foundations. The laboratory combines human genetic studies, cell-culture models, microbiome analyses, transgenic mouse models, novel therapeutics, and translational studies to investigate the inflammatory/developmental basis of neonatal diseases such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia, necrotizing enterocolitis, and rare infectious diseases. The laboratory currently employs 6 full time PhD and masters level scientists. Junior faculty and clinical fellows from Neonatology and infectious disease participate in the NDRP. We advocate a culture of discovery, innovation, team science and excellence. Access to an active neonatal genomic biorepository established by Dr. Sampath, that houses de-identified DNA samples from phenotypically well-characterized preterm cohorts, is available. Active collaborations with the Children's Mercy Center for Pediatric Genomic Medicine (Director: Dr. Tomi Pastinen) are underway for advanced sequencing-based discovery of human genetic loci affecting several neonatal diseases, and include the use of single-cell sequencing to characterize cellular phenotypic alterations in pre-clinical models. The Genomic Answers for Kids Study (GAKS), pioneered by the Genome Center, is a one of a kind study characterizing the genetic basis of rare/undiagnosed diseases using advanced sequencing/epigenetic profiling. Several opportunities exist for collaborations with research faculty in the CMRI who study mechanisms of neonatal-perinatal disease including Dr. Robert Lane (Physician in chief), Dr. Todd Bradley (CPGM immunogenetic director), and Dr. Susana Chavez Bueno (Infectious disease) and Dr. Michael Soares (Center for Perinatal research). We are seeking an AI Research Scientist that will conduct groundbreaking research in machine learning and natural language technologies to drive innovation at Propio. This role focuses on exploring novel algorithms, improving existing models for interpretation and speech tasks, and publishing high-impact research to strengthen Propio's position as an AI leader in language services. Key Responsibilities: Conduct research in NLP, speech, and machine learning, with focus on translation, interpretation, bidirectional communication, and low-resource language challenges Develop and prototype novel architectures and algorithms for real-world applications in Propio's core domains Publish in top AI and NLP conferences and journals (NeurIPS, ACL, ICML, EMNLP, Interspeech) Collaborate with engineering teams to transition research into production systems, ensuring research advances translate to product improvements Advise leadership on emerging technologies, research trends, and their applicability to Propio's roadmap Mentor junior researchers and foster a strong internal research culture within the expanded team Identify and explore emerging challenges in speech-to-speech systems, multilingual interpretation, and agentic AI Requirements Qualifications: Master's Degree in Engineering, preferably in Computer Science, Statistics, or Data Science or equivalent work experience 2-3+ years of experience working with NLP or large-scale ML models in production Proven publication record in leading AI/NLP venues (NeurIPS, ACL, ICML, EMNLP, Interspeech) Expertise in ML, deep learning, NLP, or speech processing methods Proficiency in Python and research tooling (PyTorch, JAX, Transformers) Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, or related field (or equivalent research experience) Strong problem-solving and scientific communication skills Interest in applied research with real-world impact; experience in production ML systems a plus #LI-JS1

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Criminal Justice and Legal Department will assist the Graduate Program Director and Department Chair with duties related to the administration of both Graduate and Undergraduate programs. This is a non-teaching Graduate Assistantship. Physical Demands Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Required Qualifications Degree seeking graduate student at Missouri Western State University Maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA - not on academic probation. Enrolled in at least five (5) credit hours per semester Accepted into the MWSU Graduate Program for Criminal Justice and Legal Studies.
