Job Summary
The Graduate Assistant (GA) in the Department of School of Health and Human Performance at Georgia College & State University plays a vital role in supporting academic, research, and administrative functions within the department. This position provides opportunities for professional development and hands-on experience in health and human performance-related disciplines.
Responsibilities
Research - 70
Conduct undergraduate research projects to support the Scholars of Health and Human Performance (SHHPS) undergraduate research program. Assist students with data collection, data analysis, and presentations for research projects.
Administrative Support - 20
Assist in classroom laboratory experiences as needed.
Other Duties as Assigned - 10
The graduate assistant performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science

Approved for regular admission to a graduate degree program at Georgia College & State University. Upload Acceptance into "Additional Documents" attachment in application.
Maintain academic good standing. If a student's grade point average falls below a 3.00 (academic warning), the student will have next semester or summer term to improve and return to good standing before termination of the assistantship. Should a student fail to return to good standing after the next semester or summer term, or should a student receive academic exclusion and be dismissed from the degree program, the assistantship will be terminated at once.
This position will work in-person 19 hours per week.
* Full assistantships (19 hours/week) cover all but $25 of tuition.
* Applicable student fees are not covered by the assistantship.
Course loads for graduate assistants must be at least 6 graduate semester hours.
Required Experience
Enrollment in a graduate program at Georgia College & State University, preferably within health and human performance or a related field.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an academic setting.
Experience with Exercise Science laboratory equipment is preferred.
Experience with research methods and data analysis is preferred.

Prior experience assisting with academic research, data collection, and analysis.
Familiarity with course instruction support, such as grading, tutoring, or developing educational materials.
Previous engagement in community health initiatives, wellness programs, or exercise science practices.

Background in event coordination, student outreach, or leadership roles.
Knowledge of grant writing, research funding processes, or academic publications.
Professional experience related to health sciences, kinesiology, or human performance disciplines.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Must be enrolled in a graduate program at Georgia College & State University.
Preferred enrollment in a program related to Health and Human Performance, Exercise Science, Public Health, Kinesiology, or a closely related field.
Strong academic background in research methods, health sciences, human movement, or applied physiology is beneficial.
Previous coursework or experience in data analysis, program evaluation, or statistical research is a plus.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

JOB SUMMARY:
Fort Valley State University's College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology (CAFST) is seeking an environmental economist for 12-month non-tenure track research (100%) research assistant professor level to develop and/or lead a nationally recognized research program in any area of environmental economics that is directed towards climate changes and its corresponding social economic impacts. Specific areas of interest include evaluation of the impact of climate changes, environmental policies related to climate change friendly production behaviors of farmers, sustainable development of rural economy, natural resource economics, climate change and technology adoptions. Research is expected to be of a quality resulting in publications in leading academic journals and to enhance advanced quantitative analyses of large data sets related to agricultural economics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write grant proposals and work diligently to obtain external funding.
Supervise the implementation of the grants and make sure that it is on point.
Conduct data administration and management, including database planning, design, implementation, and maintenance, while ensuring data security and accessibility.
Apply economic, econometric, and statistical theories and methods to conduct high quality research and analysis.
Serve as a technical expert on program development activities within the research station, college and university regarding climate changes.
Supervise research professionals and research assistants in the research group.
Collaborate with colleagues on campus and off campus, within state and out of state.
Provide leadership in ecologically stressed issue research working with limited resource farmers in Georgia, particularly, the Black Belt Region.
Other duties may be necessary for the successful performance of this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in agricultural/environmental/natural resource economics.
Research work related to environmental economics with publications in referred journal.
Demonstrated success in communicating research to a wide array of audiences.

Develop a multidisciplinary, independent research program related to food security (i.e. food systems, food processing, food distribution, product development, food waste, food toxicology, etc.) through the generation of extramural research funding.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and stakeholders to address food system issues related to health, nutrition, environmental or economic sustainability, and/or accessibility of foods/food security.
Generate, translate, apply, and disseminate research-based information that can be used to support and empower food entrepreneurs and assist organizations grow, process, and distribute healthy foods locally and in surrounding communities.
May teach undergraduate courses related to food and nutrition as adjunct.
Assist/Advise undergraduate students.
Participate with student recruitment and retention activities.

Terms and Conditions:
The graduate assistantship includes the following requirements and benefits:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct data administration and management, including database planning, design, implementation, and maintenance, while ensuring data security and accessibility.
Apply economic, econometric, and statistical theories and methods to conduct high quality research and analysis.
