About the team: Vera's work in New Orleans began in 2006, when the City Council invited us to assess the criminal justice system and propose reforms as part of post-Katrina recovery efforts. Since then, we have become a nexus for advancing evidence-based reform and have demonstrated that change is not only possible but within reach. The Research Associate 3 (RA3) will plan, assist, and conduct highly independent research, upon approval of the Principal Investigator, working on the project titled ‘Viral Oncolysis of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma”. The LSUHSC Cancer Center is seeking a Research Associate 2 (RA2) to plan, assist and conduct laboratory experiments on the research project "A Mechanistic Study to elucidate the role of Protein S in elevating the risk of Thrombosis in Obese, Pre-menopausal women”. The incumbent is expected to manage and perform general day-to-day lab operations including daily and routine maintenance of lab equipment and instruments and lab safety inspection and management. They will analyze, summarize, and organize collected data together with the Principal Investigator and draft, edit and revise reports and manuscripts for publication in professional journals. The RA2 will also purchase and/or recommend purchase of lab supplies, reagents and new equipment for research projects. The incumbent must have the ability to travel to various clinics/sites with reliable transportation as they may be required to collect /draw blood from study participants, isolate plasma, perform immunoblotting and various coagulation assays using Spectrophotometer, and conduct protein purification using HPLC , FPLC techniques. The Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy within the LSU Health Sciences Center is a large Basic Science department with a strong commitment to both academics and research. The department employs approximately 40 faculty, unclassified, classified, graduate students and other support staff. The incumbent in this position will work under minimal supervision by a senior faculty member on various research projects utilizing techniques and skills according to the project's protocol. The focus of the lab is to understand the functioning of the autonomic nervous system, in particular how it interacts with the immune system. The primary duties will involve histochemical analysis of neural tissue, biochemical measurements of hormone levels, weigh and anaesthetize small laboratory rodents, maintain records relative to physical condition and dissect, collect and prepare tissue samples for experiments.
