In Thousand Oaks, the Automated Screening Platforms/ High-Throughput Assays group in the Lead Discovery & Targeted Protein Degradation organization is seeking a temporary contract worker for a laboratory based on-site role to provide assay reagent preparation for screening assay delivery. The desired team member will primarily contribute to a high demand for routine cell culture (expansion, banking and quality-control) of various mammalian cell lines. Responsibilities will also include collaborating with robotic platform operators to execute high-throughput cell-based & biochemical assays, in support of small molecule therapeutic discovery research pipeline & platform projects. Additional tasks include general laboratory maintenance activities such as preparing media & buffers, ordering/ stocking reagents & consumables. Training will be provided to use assay information management software applications (electronic lab notebook) and as needed utilization of laboratory instrumentation to deliver on job responsibilities.
Daily activity will vary day-to-day but in scope activities include:
1. Perform routine maintenance of mammalian cell lines (expansion, aliquoting, cryobanking)
2. Routine preparation of assay reagents to support screening on automated screening platforms
3. Order, prepare, and maintain laboratory reagents & consumables to perform assays
4. As needed, offline assay validation experiments in 384- and 1536-well plate format
An ideal candidate will have experience with mammalian cell culture techniques. Additionally, candidates should be detail-orientated, highly motivated, team player and a quick learner with a strong background in life sciences, molecular & cellular biology, and/or biochemistry. Experience in a laboratory setting developing and performing microtiter plate based biochemical & cell-based assays, including familiarity with luminescence-based, TRF, ALPHA, &/or high-content imaging assays is preferred. Experience with software programming skills (Python), or using AI agents (Copilot, ChatGPT) are beneficial but not required.

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Tsai Lab at CHLA is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our research program as an Associate Research Specialist. The Tsai Lab studies the genomics of pediatric brain tumors, focusing on using functional genomics approaches to characterize tumor drivers and identify novel dependencies with the goal of finding better therapies for childhood cancer. The Associate Research Specialist will perform molecular biology techniques (cloning, plasmid generation, DNA and RNA isolations), protein work including Western blots, generate lentivirus, culture neurosphere cell lines, and perform functional genomics experiments in these cell lines. This individual will be expected to be organized, understand scientific concepts, plan and prepare for experiments, and conduct routine and non-routine laboratory procedures. This person will be expected to accurately document their methods, analyze data, and assist in the preparation of results for publication in research journals as well as posters or presentations for conferences. The candidate will present in lab meetings and will engage in one-on-one meets with the PI on a regular basis to discuss research progress and professional development, including mentorship regarding graduate and/or medical school. Additional laboratory responsibilities include ordering lab supplies, lab maintenance, and lab management.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 1+ year of experience performing independent laboratory research experiment at the time of start. Strong preference for 2 year commitment. Must be proficient in the following:

QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in Science or equivalent clinical research experience; Bachelor's degree preferred.
1-3+ years of experience in clinical or biological research.
ECG, phlebotomy, and other protocol-related technical skills preferred.
Solid understanding of clinical research methods and GCP/regulatory concepts.
Strong oral and written communication skills; able to collaborate across research teams.
Proficient with Office 365 and general computer applications.
Demonstrates professionalism, strong work ethic, integrity, and attention to detail.
Adaptable team player who can take on additional tasks, support process improvements, and help train new hires.
