Who We Are Looking For: An individual with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in horticulture, environmental sciences, biology or botany is preferred. Job Description Summer on the Cuyahoga (SOTC) / Warshawsky Fellowship in European Paintings and Sculpture, 1500-1800 In support of the forthcoming reinstallation of a major gallery of European paintings and sculpture ca. 1550 - 1700, the European Paintings and Sculpture team seeks an intern to assist in researching the objects to be displayed and updating / completing their online catalogue entries, including didactics, bibliography, exhibition history, and provenance. These 50 objects are, primarily, Italian paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts. The chosen candidate will: review the extant catalogue entries; consult the relevant curatorial, collections management, archival and conservation files; conduct research in the Ingalls Library and online; and reach out to external scholars, as needed. They will also edit and/or compose new didactics for each object, including “Did You Know?” facts, digital didactics, and wall labels. Over the course of the internship, the selected candidate will update the Collections Online entries for the objects to be featured in the forthcoming reinstallation of the Reid Gallery of Italian Baroque Paintings and Sculpture. This includes the digital didactics, bibliography, exhibition history, and provenance for each object. Where appropriate, they will also write wall labels to accompany these objects in the galleries. By the end of the internship, every object will have updated and completed Collections Online entries and accompanying wall labels. This internship will provide the intern with a behind the scenes look at how a curatorial department prepares for a reinstallation. The Wildlife Research Technician works with the Wildlife Ecologist to conduct wildlife research, monitoring and management throughout Cleveland Metroparks. This position reports to the Wildlife Ecologist at Mill Stream Run Reservation and works at reservations throughout Cleveland Metroparks. Preference is given to applicants with relevant wildlife experience and enrolled in a university wildlife degree program, or other relevant field of study. Responsibilities: Reviewing and categorizing wildlife camera images using Timelapse or other software. Assisting with data analysis and interpretation in preparation of reports. Ashland University seeks a graduate assistant to serve as the men's and women's assistant tennis coach. This position will report to the head tennis coach and the Director of Athletics. Ashland University is a NCAA Division II institution that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference ( GMAC ). The university is located midway between Cleveland and Columbus off of Interstate 71. Ashland University offers 24 varsity sports and features over 750 student-athletes. This position will assist in coaching student-athletes on a daily basis. This will include one-on-one instruction and coaching in a group setting. The assistant tennis coach will help the head tennis coach in coaching during practices and matches. This position will help in match set-up and match administration. This position will be involved in recruiting potential student-athletes and help the tennis program reach its roster goal. This will include contacting potential student-athletes by phone and email, conducting campus tours and evaluating the playing ability of potential student-athletes. This position will also be involved in making team travel plans, helping to monitor academic progress of team members and in helping to promote the tennis program in a variety of ways, including camps and clinics. Holden Arboretum Internship Opportunity: The Research department seeks several Summer Research Interns. Research Interns will spend the summer conducting research at Holden Forests & Gardens (HF&G) within the Arboretum campus' 3,600 acres of forested land, extensive living plant collections, and high-tech laboratories. Types of skills learned over the summer may include, for example: plant and insect identification; microbial isolation and culturing; extracting, amplifying, and analyzing DNA; thermal and spectral phenotyping, micro-controllers for environmental monitoring. Interns will also learn about experimental design, data analysis in R, and science communication. Interns may work with other Holden Forests & Garden Departments, with opportunities for cross-training. Job Description Position Objective Working under limited supervision, the Research Assistant 3 will coordinate research activities on projects related to cardiac contractile function. The research assistant will work closely with other lab members and focus on research involving molecular biology of cardiac muscle contraction and perform a wide array of cellular and molecular biology experiments using gel electrophoresis, protein biochemistry, western blots, bacterial transformation and culture, high throughput small molecule screening, and other in vitro techniques. Essential Functions * Work closely with the principal investigator to coordinate research activities that characterize the roles of myofilament contractile proteins in the regulation of cardiac muscle contraction. Work on muscle mechanics setup with molecular reagents and/or cardiac tissues, and work with animal models/and bacterial cells in the laboratory. (50%) * Carry out general molecular biology, including design and implement cloning strategies, PCR, mutagenesis, gel electrophoresis, gel purification, plasmid preparation, bacterial transformation, protein biochemistry, bacterial culture, western blotting, and expression and purification of recombinant proteins, and small molecule screening using myosin ATPase assays. (20%) * Devise new protocols and techniques for protein purification and protein binding studies that involve a high degree of skill and training. Carry out complex experiments to characterize binding properties of recombinant and native contractile proteins with various ligands using a variety of molecular and biochemical methods, including but limited to co-sedimentation assays, isothermal calorimetry, microscale thermophoresis, etc. (10%) * Evaluate adequacy of biochemical techniques, study and test new procedures, collect and analyze data, maintain lab records, provide feedback on experimental design, prepare and present research results in lab meetings.
