Plans, coordinates, and organizes daily office operations and activities.

Contribute to the drafting and development of research papers, reports, and presentations for academic journals, conferences, and other scholarly outlets. Present research findings at internal and external meetings, workshops, or academic conferences when applicable.
Collaborate with Caron faculty, other research staff, and student interns to achieve research objectives.
Function as a member of the research team through active participation in research team meetings and correspondence.

Support research studies related to such matters as participant identification, recruitment, enrollment, retention, protocol implementation, data collection, data entry, database creation and maintenance, staffing needs identification and scheduling related to project specific requirements, program evaluation, and basic statistical analysis.
Properly implement study protocols and ensure timely and accurate documentation of study events.
Support, as necessary, the completion of required paperwork for studies and ensure all research documentation is current and accurate. Maintain accurate and organized records of study data, ensuring data integrity and research participant confidentiality.

Ensure compliance with standard protocol and regulatory obligations in assigned aspects of clinical site monitoring.
Write and submit reports of investigational site findings and update applicable tracking systems.
Maintain records of assigned compliance activities and report these activities to internal department staff and the Caron Compliance Department.
Serve as a liaison between study sites, sponsors and regulatory agencies.

* With the use of handheld electronic equipment and Monsanto proprietary software, collect notes on various agronomic traits (e.g. emergence uniformity, flowering date, lodging, height, maturity, shattering resistance) in a timely manner throughout the growing season;
* Harvest plots and collect samples for quality and statistical analysis; ensure harvest data is evaluated and relinquished in accordance with crop advancement deadlines to aid in product advancement decisions;

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate student to join our research team as a ResearchAssistant. The student will contribute to ongoing research projects in high-energy astroparticle physics, with a focus on neutrinos, under the supervision of Dr. Stephanie Wissel, Associate Professor in Physics and Astronomy and Astrophysics. The ideal candidate will conduct research using computational tools and/or work in the lab which focuses on radio detection of neutrinos and includes work on mechanical design, high-frequency electronics, antennas for experiments deployed in remote locations like Greenland, Antarctica, New Zealand, and Argentina.

Characteristic Responsibilities:
Supervision
* Directly supervise up to 10-15 Head RAs and RAs.
* Plan and facilitate weekly supervision meetings with HRAs, biweekly supervision meetings with RAs, and monthly HD staff meetings.
* Provide ongoing feedback for RAs and facilitate the RA evaluation process for the supervision area.

Student Support

Facilities Management

Residential Education & Curriculum

Special Projects
* Assist with the recruitment and selection of HRAs and RAs.
* Attend and facilitate RA training sessions.
* Oversee the day to day operations of the RA resource room.
Administrative Duties
* Hold regularly scheduled office hours (20 hours per week Monday-Friday between 8:30am-5pm), including administrative tasks like email, phone calls, walk in appointments with students.
* Participate in weekly supervision meetings with the supervisor.
* Participate in weekly HRL staff meetings.
* Participate in Division of College Life meetings as requested.
* Participate in on-call rotation for residential population with professional staff members.
* May perform other duties as assigned.

The Field Research Scientist supports and manages the day-to-day operations of the research program in an assigned territory, by working with regional Site Leads and key stakeholders to plan, establish, maintain, collect accurate agronomic data from, and harvest corn soybean, wheat, and cotton trials.
**Key Tasks and Responsibilities:**
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
+ Must be located in or around one of the following areas: Southern New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, or Virginia.
+ Ensure safe and efficient operation of the research program with respect to budgetary guidelines and expectations and support the site ESH program as it applies to North American Field Testing and Operations.
+ Selection, preparation, and maintenance of multiple field testing sites. This requires safe driving including frequent trailer use hauling loads in excess of 10,000 lbs; pre-trip inspections and use of log books.
+ Plays a vital role in trial preparation including seed processing, packaging, shipping, protocol review, trial placement, and mapping/field design.
+ Maintain field trial sites as week, insect, and disease free;
+ Having a confident ability in identifying key weeds, insect, and disease problems is critical, as is timely and accurate implementation of control measures;
+ With the use of handheld electronic equipment and Monsanto proprietary software, collect notes on various agronomic traits (e.g. emergence uniformity, flowering date, lodging, height, maturity, shattering resistance) in a timely manner throughout the growing season;
+ Harvest plots and collect samples for quality and statistical analysis; ensure harvest data is evaluated and relinquished in accordance with crop advancement deadlines to aid in product advancement decisions;
+ Develop, maintain, and implement the use of controlled SOP documents, QMS procedures, and investigative protocols;
+ Comply with all Monsanto regulatory compliance guidelines for Confined Release and Stewarded Trial material;
+ Collaborate with other Agronomic Research Specialists, Site Leads, and Principal Investigators in order to facilitate efficient trial planning and placement;
+ Sharing of ideas and techniques and quick response to issues that may arise (e.g. weather or pests affecting trials);
+ Works closely with Plant Breeders, Principal Investigators, and Agronomic Research Specialist to filly understand the multiple stages of crop development and the importance of each step involved and share experiences cross-functionally as needed;
+ Field selection, cooperator relations, and ability to learn research equipment operations and basic maintenance (all types), field maintenance, and data collection;
+ Basic Agronomic knowledge/Crop Management knowledge;
+ Technical savvy and ability to adhere to compliance and safety policies;
+ Utilization of IT tools, time management, prioritization skills;
+ Must be self motivated with good decision-making abilities;
+ Accountable for business unit or project results through leadership and coordination across site strategy;

* Microbiological culturing and isolation of soil and seed-borne fungal pathogens

Job Description
Rodale Institute's Seasonal Research Technician position is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in agricultural research in the field and lab. The Seasonal Research Technician position is an entry level opportunity for aspiring researchers to gain experience with organic regenerative agriculture, field research design, sample collection, and laboratory protocols. Rodale Institute's research focuses on innovative methods for improving soil health, food nutrient density, water use efficiency, reducing pests, and greenhouse gas emissions. Seasonal Research Technicians work on all active projects and are critical to the completion of essential day-to-day research activities. The position also includes opportunities to participate in Rodale field events, such as the annual Kutztown Field Day.
Rodale's Research Trials
Farming Systems Trial (FST) - the oldest continuous trial in the US comparing organic and conventional grain cropping systems.
Vegetable Systems Trial (VST) - comparing the impacts of organic and conventional farming practices on nutrient density in vegetables and linking nutrient density to soil health parameters.
Integrated Weed Management Trials - studying organic methods to manage weeds, combining biological, cultural, physical, and chemical tools.
Perennial Systems Program - Advancing organic methods of tree fruit and nut production through technology integration, while conducting genetics and management research to determine best practices in alleycropping and silvopasture agroforestry systems.
Industrial Hemp Trials - investigating best agronomic practices for growing industrial hemp in PA and using it as a tool in organic farming systems.
Additional field, greenhouse, and laboratory studies are also conducted.
Duties & Responsibilities
Collect and process soil, plant, insect, grain, and produce samples using industry-standard protocols.
Conduct soil analyses including bulk density, compaction, infiltration, etc.
Conduct plant analyses including weed identification, stand counts, and pest damage assessment.
Lay out experimental field plots using GPS mapping, in-field measurements, and flagging.
Tend and maintain field, greenhouse, and/or high tunnel experiments (using hand tools, weedwhackers, mowers, watering, etc.).
Enter data precisely and in a timely manner and assist with data compilation and organization.
Maintenance of laboratory spaces and specialized laboratory and field equipment.
Candidate Qualifications
Undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college or university
A strong work ethic, initiative, and motivation
Attention to detail and a high level of care
The ability to work well individually and in a team environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Interest in regenerative agricultural issues, practices, and/or research
Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
Experience in agriculture, horticulture, or field research strongly preferred
Must be able to lift 50lbs.

Additional Information
Location: Rodale Institute Headquarters, 611 Siegfriedale Road, Kutztown, PA 19530
Compensation: Seasonal technicians will be paid $20/hour. Organic produce from the farm is occasionally available during the growing season.
Housing: Communal, on-site, co-ed housing is available for seasonal technicians. Housing is provided in a farmhouse located on Rodale Institute property in Kutztown, PA.
Schedule: Seasonal technicians work full-time for a period of eight months, from the beginning of April through the end of November (Thanksgiving).
Travel: This position is primarily at the Rodale Institute main campus in Kutztown, PA. However, travel for this position may involve local travel to farms that are part of on-farm trials, and to local or regional workshops and conferences.
