Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership: This role is responsible for shaping a clear research vision for products and prioritizing research opportunities that align with business goals. The Research Specialist is assigned to provide support for the officers, staff, and members on a citywide basis. The Research Specialist is responsible to the Strategic Research Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Monitor and maintain a database of pertinent information relevant to bargaining, organizing and preservation of the tenets of UTLA.
B. Collect and analyze public records in order to understand school district practices and policies, finances, and other relevant issues.
C. Research current economic, social, and policy trends to inform or make appropriate strategic recommendations.

**Overview**
**Purpose Statement/Position Summary:** The Associate Research Specialist, under supervision, conducts routine laboratory research procedures. Follows protocol to perform experiments. Tabulates data and may assist with analysis. Performs routine equipment maintenance and orders supplies. May provide instruction to support personnel.
The Associate Research Specialist (ARS) will be involved in pediatric neural cancer research at Children's Hospital Los Angeles in the Smith Research Tower in Dr. Huang's Laboratory. The lab is focused on understanding the genetic causes of and identifying potential therapeutic targets for two pediatric neural tumors: medulloblastoma and neuroblastoma. The ARS will perform and acquire a wide range of skills including maintaining and differentiating human stem cells, cloning DNA constructs, genome editing using CRISPR, transduction/transfections, flow cytometry, western blot, RT-qPCR, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry and mouse surgeries. The ARS must be willing to rotate with 2-3 other lab mates to maintain cell cultures over the weekends. The ARS will also assist in lab managerial duties (e.g. lab ordering, troubleshooting broken equipment, etc). In addition, the ARS will have the opportunity to present at lab meetings, lead a project(s) and be a co-author or first author on publication(s). This is an ideal position for a self-motivated individual interested in expanding skill sets in a wet laboratory setting and/or pursuing a PhD or MD/PhD in the future. Candidates must be committed to working for at least 2 years.
**Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:** Experience working in a laboratory environment required; Preferred 1+ years experience performing laboratory research (previous work in a biology research lab for at least 6 months and have at least 3 months of experience performing mammalian cell culture). Previous experience working with live mice and human stem cells is preferred.
**Education/Licensure/Certifications:** Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a scientific field. Applicants must have completed their bachelor's degree by their anticipated start date.

Charles R. The CDU HIV Research Pillar and Drew Center for AIDS Research, Education, and Services (Drew CARES) have a vibrant track record of HIV-related research, training, and service delivery.
In collaboration with the Urban Health Institute, the CDU HIV Research Pillar and Drew CARES seek to recruit two faculty members for appointment at the academic rank of Assistant-to-Full Professor. Faculty rank will be determined based on experience and review of dossier material submitted. Recruited faculty members will have opportunities for research collaboration and mentorship with the new UCLA-CDU Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). The CFAR mission is to stop HIV in Los Angeles County and beyond by engaging diverse researchers with multidisciplinary perspectives.
The University is seeking investigators whose work combines HIV prevention, treatment, and/or health services research with any one or more of the following areas: substance use disorders, mental health, trauma, clinical informatics, hepatitis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, or mobile technologies. We seek investigators with research experience and interest in domestic issues related to Black and Latino populations OR international issues related to prevention and treatment services in Sub-Saharan Africa. HIV clinicians are highly encouraged to apply.
All candidates should also demonstrate an interest and skill in teaching or mentorship, and a history of successful multi- and interdisciplinary research collaboration.

EDUCATION:

Los Angeles Cancer Network is seeking an Research Administrative Assistant to perform administrative support duties related to the collection of clinical data and/or the coordination of clinical studies. Work under supervision of the principal investigator and/or study coordinator/supervisor.
Duties include*:
Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments; contact participants with reminders or other requirements.
Prepare, distribute, and process questionnaires.
Perform clerical duties in the preparation of regulatory documents. Maintain all forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. File all appropriate correspondence.

COMPENSATION
