Position Information The Assistant Research Scientist will be responsible for assisting in the development and application of EPIC/APEX model-based soil carbon modeling frameworks for improving agroecosystem sustainability. This position will assist a team of ecosystem modeling scientists to perform process-based ecosystem models based research and develop decision support systems. This position will also assist in writing python/R programming scripts to optimize processing time, making the current decision support systems more efficient and reliable. Responsibilities: Aid in the development and application of soil carbon modeling frameworks in APEX/EPIC models. Aid in the development of GHG modules in SWAT+/APEX/EPIC. Integrating ML/AI with Process based modeling to develop/optimize decision support systems. Work effectively within a modeling group comprised of ARS, AgriLife, and other personnel. Actively participate in joint research activities. Effectively manage and complete assigned tasks. Other job-related duties as required. Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Ecology, agronomy, Geology, Environmental Science/Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related disciplines with emphasis on soil carbon modeling or agroecosystem assessment. Some relevant professional experience. Demonstrated publication record in agronomic/soil carbon modeling and analysis. Interdisciplinary teamwork skills with researchers across different disciplines. Flexibility to perform work in a team or individually with supervision. Good communication, interpersonal skills, professionalism, and competency. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of computer models on watershed assessment and/or flood management. Knowledge of programming or scripting languages such as Python, Fortran, R or others. Experience in remote sensing data analysis and geographic information system. Experience in machine learning motivated algorithms and quantitative data analysis. Strong writing and communication skills. The Postdoc will be taking a leadership role in a developing new tools and approaches for long-read metagenomics and applying these to both human health and aquaculture related projects, will assist in other funded projects, will be exposed to many research topics associated with environmental biotechnology, and will have the opportunity to start new projects. The Minich lab has a PacBio Vega benchtop sequencer (first in a Texas University), a high-performance computing cluster, and a fully equipped molecular lab. Priority will be given to candidates with experience working with computational biology (including ML/AI), biostatistics, functional genomics (comparative genomics and pangenomes), microbial ecology analysis targeting microbial genomes, microbial pathways, and microbially-produced metabolites as demonstrated through publications and references. Position Information Texas A&M AgriLife Research, located in Temple, Texas, is seeking a postdoctoral research associate. We seek an innovative and highly motivated candidate who will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of methane and NH3 modeling and enhancement from livestock animals and manure housing and management in small farms or watersheds using Python and Fortran programming language. Responsibilities: Conduct a literature review and gap analysis of existing models on methane and nitrogen gas production, livestock enteric fermentation, and dairy manure storage and management. Acquire, organize, and analyze GHG and NH3 gases released into the environment by concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) through soil, air, and water. Enhance model algorithms for livestock enteric fermentation and manure housing and management using a scientific programming language. Integrate the modules into the APEX ecosystem simulation model. Assess and mitigate agroecosystem GHG stresses imposed by concentrated, ruminant-livestock production systems, and climate change. Assess and enhance the performance of the improved model across diverse dairy systems and under different livestock and grazing management practices. Document the model development process and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Sciences, Animal Science, Rangeland Management, Environmental Sciences, or related fields. Demonstrated publication record. Ability to design, analyze, and interpret data from field studies. Experience with project management and technical report writing.
