JOB SUMMARY The Department Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, San Bernardino is seeking part-time graduate student applications from a diverse group of qualified individuals for both our San Bernardino Campus (SBC) as well as our Palm Desert Campus (PDC). The department is seeking experienced, well-organized, and student-centered individuals to teach in any of our subject areas: General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry. Candidates in this position will be tasked with teaching labs or discussions which are foundational level courses while maintaining an active dialogue with the coordinator. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students. Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who have professional capabilities. Workload can be as little as one course up to a maximum of 15 WTU. This is a pool of graduate students for the department to draw on as necessary and all appointments are temporary. Staffing decisions are made on a rolling basis typically beginning a few months prior to the start of an academic term right up to the beginning of the academic term. We recommend submitting your application at least 4 months before the beginning of an academic term to be considered for available positions. Most classes are deliberately kept to a moderate size, so students can better interact with the instructor. General chemistry lecture classes are usually capped at 96, while upper division classes are anywhere between 10-72 students. Laboratory classes are typically 24 for general chemistry, and 16-20 or less for most upper division classes. The upper division labs are mostly taught by permanent faculty, and the lower division laboratories are mostly taught by the part-time lecturers and a few teaching associates from the MSES program. Good advice is considered a key aspect to academic progress at CSUSB, and chemistry faculty advisors are available for consultation. Each student majoring in chemistry or biochemistry will be required to see an advisor at least once each year to ensure they are on track for graduation. Positions will be filled as needed for each academic semester. Part-time faculty lecturers are hired with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors that cannot be addressed with existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Information Freshness in Wireless Networks - analyzing and optimizing timeliness of information delivery, latency, and age-of-information metrics in networked systems. This role is ideal for graduate students who want to develop advanced research skills while contributing to cutting-edge projects in computing, AI, and wireless communication. TYPICAL ACTIVITIES Graduate Assistants may: Conduct literature reviews and summarize research findings. Assist with experiments, simulations, coding, and data analysis. Develop and test research software or tools (e.g., for AI or wireless simulation). Prepare reports, manuscripts, or conference papers. Visualize results and contribute to research presentations. Participate in regular research meetings with the supervising faculty member. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be a current CSUSB graduate student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
