About the Role As a Teaching Associate in the AFSE program, you will play a pivotal role in supporting Fellows through personalised consultations and a decolonial, evidence-based teaching approach that values Indigenous knowledges and methodologies. You will assist Fellows in developing tailored growth plans, foster a collaborative tutoring team environment, and contribute to curriculum development through research support, ensuring best practices in learning and teaching. This role is integral to maintaining the high-quality and impactful academic offerings of the program. Your responsibilities will include: Identifying Fellows' academic support needs, providing expert advice on subject/course requirements, and guiding them to develop academic skills, including reading, writing, and independent study techniques. Actively contributing to tutoring team meetings, onboarding, and coordination, fostering an environment of professional development and best-practice teaching for Indigenous higher education contexts. Supporting assessment activities, including marking, feedback, and coordinating Fellow study groups, while maintaining effective administration of module activities and assessments. Assisting with curriculum development, providing research support, and ensuring the program reflects up-to-date research and optimal learning and teaching practices. Who we are looking for You will have highly developed organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with a strong ability to work sensitively and effectively across trans-Indigenous contexts. Your proven experience in providing administrative and teaching support, combined with excellent time management and the ability to manage competing priorities, will ensure the successful delivery of programmes. You will also have: A PhD or nearing completion, with demonstrated academic excellence, particularly in (Critical) Indigenous Studies or related fields focused on social transformation or Indigenous scholarship within your academic discipline. Experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring at the tertiary level, with teaching experience at the University of Melbourne being highly regarded, along with a demonstrated understanding of Indigenous issues in higher education. High-level intercultural skills, enabling you to work sensitively and proactively across trans-Indigenous contexts, supported by familiarity with Indigenous ethics, methodologies, and empirical research. Proficiency in both Mac and PC environments, with advanced computer literacy and experience developing and troubleshooting online resources, including the Canvas learning management system (LMS).
