1914

In 1914, the company introduced the first 12-inch diameter graphite electrodes.

1956

In 1956, the company received an Academy Award for the development and production of a high-efficiency yellow flame carbon for motion picture color photography.

1985

In 1985, the company developed advanced technology for carbon/carbon composite material used in spacecraft.

1989

Union Carbide was reorganized in 1989, with the Carbon Products Division renamed as the UCAR Carbon Company.

1990

In 1990, the company introduced first 30-inch diameter graphite electrodes for UHP DC arc furnaces.

1995

In 1995, the company developed new graphite for the US Advanced Battery Consortium for a lithium-ion battery in electric vehicles.

1998

In 2009, HiTherm™ Thermal Interface Material was used for thermal management on the retrofitted “Science Data Formatter” on the Hubble Space Telescope.

Gina K. Gunning joined GrafTech as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary in July 2018.

2019

In 2019, NeoNxGen™ Thermal Management Solutions were specified in the reference design for laptops with foldable screens.

Catherine L. Clegg was elected to the Board of Directors in 2019.

2020

Iñigo Perez Ortiz joined GrafTech as Senior Vice President, Commercial in February 2020.

Leslie D. Dunn was elected to the Board of Directors in 2020.

2021

Timothy K. Flanagan was appointed GrafTech’s Chief Financial Officer, Vice President Finance and Treasurer in November 2021.

Debra Fine was elected to the Board of Directors in 2021.

2022

Marcel Kessler joined GrafTech as Chief Executive Officer and President and was elected to the Board of Directors in July 2022.
