Graham Windham company history timeline

1806

Together, they established the Orphan Asylum Society in the City of New York, which first met on March 15, 1806.

1835

In 1835, a separate child welfare institution, the Society for the Relief of Half-Orphan and Destitute Children, later known as Windham Child Care, was established to help widowed parents care for their children.

1900

In 1900, the Orphan Asylum sold the Riverside Drive property and used the proceeds to purchase a 40-acre riverfront site in Hastings-on-Hudson in Westchester Country.

1902

In 1902, it opened its new facility which incorporated separate, small, home-like residential units supervised by house parents.

1909

The first federal children’s bureau was established and, in 1909, the first White House Conference on Children was convened.

1977

In 1977, the Orphan Asylum Society (the Graham Home for Children) and Society for the Relief of Half-Orphan and Destitute Children (Windham Child Care) merged to create Graham Windham.

2006

In 2006, Graham Windham celebrated its two hundred years of service with a Bicentennial Ball attended by notable figures including Hillary Rodham Clinton, Laura Bush, George Pataki, and Senator Chuck Schumer.

2011

Graham Windham's historical archives contain over two hundred years of documents and have been part of the New York Historical Society's collection since 2011.

2013

Dannhauser assumed the full role of President & CEO in 2013.

2016

At a 2016 benefit held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, Graham Windham honored Lin-Manuel Miranda, his father Luis A. Miranda, Jr., Hamilton actors Phillipa Soo and Morgan Marcell, and the historian and biographer Ron Chernow.

2018

Marcell debuted her short documentary, “Sharing Our Stories: The Eliza Project” featuring members of the original Broadway cast of Hamilton at The Cinema Napa Valley Festival on November 8, 2018.
