JOB SUMMARY:
A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who has demonstrated expertise in critical care. Effectively delivers critical care to the patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, the Charge Nurse possesses the following skills: demonstrated leadership ability, ability to process multiple sources of information independently utilizing critical thinking, is adaptable to frequently changing situations, understands and responds to the needs of a multi-disciplinary team, works to build trust, is passionate about the needs of the customer (patient, family, providers, team members), demonstrated communication skills, and works to empower all members of the team to work toward their full potential. This position is responsible to ensure that timely, accurate, and professional nursing care is provided to the patients and families.
Here's what you'll do when you join us:
Assists and supports unit employees:
ER/ICU RNs, Monitor Tech's and Critical Care Unit Coordinators
Performs daily rounds in ER/ICU and leads ongoing "huddles" as necessary to ensure smooth patient flow.
Collaborates with Manager/House Supervisor to obtain updated census of other hospital units and discuss plan of potential hospital admissions.
Assists in maintaining patient and organizational flow; admission and discharge coordination
Collaborates with the MSP and Surgical Services Charge Nurses to assist with any needs of coordinating patient flow.
Ensure the process of reporting patient status to the following shift of nursing personnel.
Ensure rounds on patients in the department and waiting room are being managed and that they are kept informed and updated on the patient's condition and/or situation.
Staffs the unit according to organizational guidelines, ensure meal breaks for all staff, and facilitate to reduce overtime.
Evaluates the effectiveness of care and addresses issues that may affect the desired patient outcomes. Promotes the delivery of safe effective and appropriate care in a timely and accurate manner.
Assists/supports staff with all levels of patient care delivery.
Oversee and directs the planning and distribution of patient assignments.
Address patient and/or family issues/concern and communicates to the Manager. Understand and utilizes the online variance reporting system.
Assesses risk, responds and solves issues that may arise in the ER/ICU and provides a safe working environment for the entire department.
Performs and/or delegates the completion of quality review, regulatory observational/chart audits; actively contributes to quality and development including compliance, core measure and documentation.
Demonstrates ability to provide immediate professional practice feedback to staff.
Interacts with and contributes to the professional growth of peers, colleagues and unit. .
Collaborates and supports staffs to ensure the completion of annual unit specific trainings, and organizational required education.
Responds and assists all Trauma, STEMI, Stroke activations.
Participates in the development and planning of goals and objectives related to Trauma/STEMI/Stroke/Emergency Operation Plan programs and compliance.
Collaborates with the ED Nurse Manager, Trauma Program Medical Director, Stroke Medical Director, and Quality data abstractor in the development, implementation and evaluation of a Trauma/STEMI/Stroke/EOP quality care and programs
Monitors team's compliancy according to the Trauma/STEMI/Stroke/EOP regulatory requirements, policies and standards.
Participate in state and regional Trauma/STEMI/Stroke/EOP activities.
Ensure completion of the daily/monthly checks (i.e Crash carts, accuchecks).
Provides quality care to all patients and ensures patient safety throughout the continuum of patient care, advocates for family-centered approach, in accordance with established policies, procedures of the healthcare organization, as well as guidelines of profession organization.
Oversees and directs the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementing and evaluation according to the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act, physician's orders, recognized nursing techniques, policies, procedures, and established standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. BSN preferred.
2. Equivalent of two (2) years Critical Care experience, three (3) years preferred within the past five years.
a. ECG recognition/interpretation
b. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) and/or CCRN certification preferred or willing to obtain within 24 months
3. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required and maintain certification.
4. Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certification or attain certification within six months of employment and maintains certification.
5. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Comprehensive Advance Life Support (CALS) certification or attain certification within 12 months of employment and maintains certification.
6. Demonstrated abilities to manage large volumes of multiple patient, family, staff and physicians priorities within short time frames and organize workload; includes critical thinking, teaching/delegation skills and respectful communication.

OVERVIEW:
This ER has a total of 10 beds that sees abdominal pains, falls, strokes, chest pain, headaches etc within Pediatric through geriatric patients.
The unit schedules 2 ED RN's 24/7, Critical Care Unit Coordinator (CNA) 24/7, 3rd ED RN mid morning 24/7, and 4th ED RN mid day 24/7. Critical Care Services ED/ICU are supported with a Charge RN 24/7. ER MD 24/7 in support with an additional ER provider mid day. All shift are 12 hour shifts every third weekend.
JOB SUMMARY:

JOB DUTIES:
1. The RegisteredNurse demonstrates abilities to manage large volumes of multiple patient, family, staff and physicians priorities within short time frames and organize workload; includes critical thinking, delegation skills and respectful communication.
2. The RegisteredNurse provides quality care to all patients and ensures patient safety throughout the continuum of patient care, advocates for the patient respecting advanced directives and patient decisions.
3. The RegisteredNurse completes admission assessment according to unit policy, utilizing past medical history, therapeutic communication and physical assessment. Utilizes critical thinking and analysis.
4. The RN Identifies accurately nursing diagnosis/collaborative problems to determine appropriate interventions within the framework of accepted standards of care.
5.The RN assesses the individual needs of the adult, geriatric, adolescent and pediatric patients and developing appropriate plans of care
6. Maintains accurate, objective patient records.
7. Ensures efficiency and accuracy of orders.
8. The RN assumes patient care responsibilities by organizing workload effectively and remaining flexible to environmental changes.
9. The RegisteredNurse utilizes the department equipment correctly and efficiently; demonstrates knowledge of special preparations or equipment needed for department specific procedures.
10. Nursing skills/competencies include but are not limited to: IV access, ECG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation, airway management, pain management, neurological assessment, fluid management, infection control measures, respiratory management and sedation/analgesia assessment and monitoring.
11. Communicates professionally and collaborates effectively with patients, families, co-workers, health care team members and ancillary departments to ensure patient centered coordination of care.
12. The RN ensures plan of care is consistent with nursing standards and hospital policy and procedures.
13. Participation in performance improvement activities.
14. Maintains knowledge of The Joint Commission standards and incorporates the standards into the practice of Critical Care nursing.
15. Collaborates with and delegates to ancillary/professional staff as appropriate; assures adherence to their scopes of practice, considering licensure and/or certification.
16. Participates in professional growth and self-development activities to ensure accountability for own professional nursing practice.
17. Participates in staff meetings, committees and projects; actively contributes to the Critical Care Services quality and development.
18. Must be willing to be cross-trained to ICU and to be scheduled there to maintain competency.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. BSN preferred

A Day in the Life of an RN - ICU Step Down Unit
Step Down RegisteredNurses (RNs) provide vital intermediate care for patients transitioning from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to general medical units, ensuring continuous assessment and tailored interventions. Their role encompasses direct patient care, encompassing medication administration, treatments, and comprehensive nursing assessments, all while collaborating closely with healthcare teams across departments to ensure a holistic care approach. Challenges include managing the fluctuating health statuses of patients in a fast-paced environment and adapting quickly to meet their evolving needs. Furthermore, RNs in this position are responsible for maintaining meticulous records and providing education and support to patients and their families. Leadership and teamwork are essential, as these nurses guide and supervise other nursing staff to optimize patient outcomes.

This ER has a total of 10 beds that sees abdominal pains, falls, strokes, chest pain, headaches etc within Pediatric through geriatric patients.
The unit schedules 2 ED RN's 24/7, Critical Care Unit Coordinator (CNA) 24/7, 3rd ED RN mid morning 24/7, and 4th ED RN mid day 24/7. Critical Care Services ED/ICU are supported with a Charge RN 24/7. ER MD 24/7 in support with an additional ER provider mid day. All shift are 12 hour shifts every third weekend.
JOB SUMMARY:
A clinically competent, registerednurse who has demonstrated expertise in critical care. Effectively delivers critical care to patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. This position is responsible to provide timely, accurate and professional nursing care to patients and families in the department.
JOB DUTIES:
1. The RegisteredNurse demonstrates abilities to manage large volumes of multiple patient, family, staff and physicians priorities within short time frames and organize workload; includes critical thinking, delegation skills and respectful communication.
2. The RegisteredNurse provides quality care to all patients and ensures patient safety throughout the continuum of patient care, advocates for the patient respecting advanced directives and patient decisions.
3. The RegisteredNurse completes admission assessment according to unit policy, utilizing past medical history, therapeutic communication and physical assessment. Utilizes critical thinking and analysis.
4. The RN Identifies accurately nursing diagnosis/collaborative problems to determine appropriate interventions within the framework of accepted standards of care.
5.The RN assesses the individual needs of the adult, geriatric, adolescent and pediatric patients and developing appropriate plans of care
6. Maintains accurate, objective patient records.
7. Ensures efficiency and accuracy of orders.
8. The RN assumes patient care responsibilities by organizing workload effectively and remaining flexible to environmental changes.
9. The RegisteredNurse utilizes the department equipment correctly and efficiently; demonstrates knowledge of special preparations or equipment needed for department specific procedures.
10. Nursing skills/competencies include but are not limited to: IV access, ECG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation, airway management, pain management, neurological assessment, fluid management, infection control measures, respiratory management and sedation/analgesia assessment and monitoring.
