1971

The Sioux Lodge opened in 1971.

1973

1973 – GTR is purchased by Bill Robinson of Big Valley Corp.

1974

1974 – The Blackfoot lift opens.

1977

1977 – The Teewinot Lodge opens.

1978

1978 – Expansion of Day Lodge, Steakhouse opens, Lodging Office & Admin services expanded into a new building.

1988

1988 – Kids Club is built.

1989

An additional 600+ acres were made available when Cat Skiing began in 1989, offering fresh tracks in deep powder bowls, steep tree terrain and expansive glades.

1989 – The snowcat skiing operation begins.

1990

In March 1990, the Rendezvous day lodge was destroyed by fire.

1997

In 1997, the resort's first high-speed detachable quad chair, Dreamcatcher, replaced Bannock, and the Shoshone double chair was replaced with a fixed-grip quad.

2000

In June 2000, George and Rose Gillett, along with their four sons, purchased Grand Targhee from Booth Creek Ski Holdings.

2001

2001 – Sacajawea lift opens expanding terrain by 500 acres.

2002

2002 – Trick Town Terrain Park opens.

2004

Through a land exchange in 2004, the Gilletts acquired ownership of Grand Targhee's base area.

2005

2005 – The 1st Annual Targhee Fest.

2006

Grand Targhee is also known for it’s crazy cliffs – Jamie Pierre set a World Record in 2006 at the resort, sending a 255 foot drop via Scotty’s backcountry gate off the hike to Mary’s Nipple.

2011

2014

2014 – For summer operations the resort purchased a “Mule” for trail building.

2016

In the summer of 2016, the Blackfoot double chair was torn down to make way for the new Blackfoot highspeed quad chairlift.

2017

2017 – Mountain Master Plan and Base Area Plan are revised and submitted to Forest Service and Teton County Wyoming

2018

The Stick of Truth is a snow depth indicator at the resort, first installed in November 2018.

2020

2020 – Massive wind storm blows down thousands of trees in Middle Earth, Lot 5, and service road to Blackfoot.

2021

2021 – New state of the art mountain operations building is constructed, $6.4 million put into employee housing, and a new parking lot is built, increasing parking by 30%

2021 – Construction begins on the new Peaked lift.

2022

Opening set for 2022/23 winter season.
