1900

A.O. Smith, an automotive parts manufacturer which started out making bicycle parts in 1900.

1908

1925

The address for the theatre is listed in the 1925 Polk Tri-cities directory is 1334 19th Steet.

1936

Miss Prather was known as the “Mother of Lincoln Place.” She died in 1936.

1959

The Illinois State Legislature passes an Act to create a Regional Port District in July, 1959.

1983

Emerson School officially opens (would eventually close in 1983).

In 1983, the two high schools were merged to form Granite City High School, with Granite City South's building being used.

1990

Following years of neglect and a catastrophic fire, the building would later be demolished in the mid 1990’s to make way for the new Madison County Transit bus station.

2001

Physical yearbooks for most years can be found at the SMRLD Library located at 2001 Delmar Avenue.

2008

2008: United States Steel Granite City Works & Sun Coke Energy begin a combined $600 million investment that includes the construction of a new steam-powered co-generation plant, new efficient coke ovens as well as other upgrades.

2010

3.2010: The new Granite City Cinema opens in downtown Granite City.
