Grantham University company history timeline

1951

Since 1951, Grantham has contributed to the formal education of thousands of working adults.

Grantham University started as Grantham Radio License School, a private school founded in 1951, in Los Angeles.

1961

In 1961, the university received formal recognition by the United States Department of Education.

1968

In 1968, the school renamed itself the Grantham College of Engineering and gradually brought most of its operations under one roof in Los Angeles, California.

1971

1971: The Grantham College of Engineering moved to Falls Church, Virginia, and began awarding its first associate degrees.

1976

1976: Donald Grantham discontinued residential school operations to concentrate completely on distance education.

1977

1977: Grantham College of Engineering was the only school in the United States offering an accredited Bachelor of Science in Electronics through distance education

1985

1985: The Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology was launched.

1990

In 1990, GCE received approval to operate in Louisiana and relocated to Slidell.

1993

In 1990, GCE received approval to operate in Louisiana and relocated to Slidell. It was licensed by the Louisiana Board of Regents in 1993.

1994

1994: The college’s programmatic offerings expanded with the addition of a new Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree.

2000

Since 2000, Grantham began offering degree programs exclusively online.

2002

2002: Grantham College of Engineering launched its Business School and simultaneously became Grantham University.

2005

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit Grantham University's main campus in Slidell, Louisiana, destroying approximately eighty percent of their facilities.

2007

Grantham University in January 2007 signed a memorandum of understanding with the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) to accept educational credit earned through successful completion of DAU courses and programs as transfer or elective credit at Grantham University.

2010

2010: Grantham University began offering an RN to BSN Nursing Degree Completion program and a Master of Science in Nursing.

2014

2014: To accommodate a growing employee base for an ever-expanding and worldwide student population, Grantham University relocated its main campus to a facility across the state line in Lenexa, Kansas.

2017

2017: Grantham University launched a new Grantham Gives Back Community Grant funded by employee contributions.

2019

2019: The Heroes Program was founded for military, first responders, civil servants and eligible family members.

2020

Grantham University landed on Military Times’ ‘Best for Vets: College 2020’ list and seven degree programs were ranked in the top 50.

2021

In November 2021, Grantham joined the University of Arkansas System and changed its name to University of Arkansas Grantham.
