Simon is co-founder, CTO and EVP Engineering of Graphcore and is the original architect of the “Colossus” IPU. He has been designing original processors for emergent workloads for over 30 years, focussing on intelligence since 2012. Before Graphcore, Simon co-founded two other successful processor companies - Element14, acquired by Broadcom in 2000, and Icera, acquired by Nvidia in 2011.

He is an EE graduate of Cambridge University.

I have more than 36 years experience as a lawyer, and more than 7 years prior to that as a patent agent working under the direction of registered attorneys. The first 12 years of my practice were primarily focused on intellectual property litigation, from discovery through trial, including both first and second chair trial experience. Gradually my focus expanded to general commercial, securities, and real estate litigation. In 1994 I moved in-house as the Vice President, General Counsel of California Micro Devices where I was responsible for all SEC filings, compliance, contract negotiations, patent and trademark filings, litigation and all Board activities. After 7 years at CMD I moved on to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, where I was initially the regional counsel responsible for all non-Taiwan business transactions. Shortly after joining TSMC, my responsibilities were expanded to include all SEC filings, IP licensing and litigation matters, intellectual capital management and briefing senior management on IP related issues. In 2007 I joined Xilinx as General Counsel, as described in more detail below.
